Venting about Dentists... So fed up

I am so fed up with High Cost Dentists and sloppy work...... I spent over 3,000. this year so far on top of what my Insurance Company paid. I STILL have a toothache. My ex Dentist laughs all the way to the bank. I keep hearing Dental Horror Stories over and over from people. They will not go up against one another. It is such a crooked deal.

If I could go back I would NEVER have any root canals and never get a bridge....I just got a costly bridge and the margins on the INSIDE do not cover my teeth. Sooooooo this has caused a huge problem. My Dentist had to know about this when he put it on but instead he did not say anything. He should have sent it back and had it fit properly.

Toothache should be high on the list of torture...... I live on Motrin and tired of it.

Thanks for letting me Vent. Oleander

Re: Venting about Dentists... So fed up

Oh yes I just found out this week that my under 1 year old Bridge? The one that cost 3,000 ? The one that the margins did not over my teeth on the inside? Has failed and I have a cavity under the most imporant tooth. This is where my ear pain and tooth ache is coming from. My new dentist confirmed it. He said I was set up for failure.

I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO POed when I left it took everything not to go over the lousy Dentist who did this to me and give him a piece of my mind.

So now the bridge has to come off, tooth evaluated and repaired. Temp crowns put on the front teeth it is connected too...... Costly, time consuming and painful......and in the meantime I am living on Motrin and Penicillin. Not good for my poor body.

Anyone who gets a bridge done make sure you get a dental mirror and look around inside your mouth and make sure all the crowned teeth on that bridge covers your teeth completely. Let no area be open where Bacteria can enter. Also get a 2nd opinion and make sure the anchoring tooth is in good enough shape to hold a bridge. I had no idea just trusted my dentist and it was a MISTAKE.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Thanks for listening...... Oleander

You are not alone - I feel the same way about most dentists - the good ones I have found have been few and far between.

Re: Venting about Dentists... So fed up

Well they cut my 3000. Bridge in half and looked under it. The tooth was terribly decayed and had to be pulled. The new Dentist could not believe how decayed it was and said he was suprised I was not in more pain. The bridge was less than a year old.

So basically my old ripoff dentist lousy dog put a bridge on a tooth that was not worth saving so he could make a buck off of me.

At least my new dentist seems kind and said the tooth was not worth saving.

At least my toothache is gone and that ear ache I have had for months is gone.

Sorry you've run into such crappy dentists. In fairness, detecting decay under a bridge or crown seems to be very difficult because the bridge/crown blocks the view on the X-ray. Both DH and I have had similar problems, but on structures that we'd had for much longer. In my case, I knew there was a problem for over a year (throbbing under that area when I exerted myself, hygienist said there was a slightly infected pocket in the gum) but they didn't do anything till the crown popped off during a cleaning. By then it was too late. In your case, though, it sounds like the crown was bad from the beginning.
