Last year I had to have a root canal because one of my fillings was too deep and it was killing the tooth. Soon after I had to get a brace fitted and my dentist and orthodontist agreed that the root canal could be completed after the brace was removed. Now I have extreme pain in the tooth (this happened once before in july for about a week) and nothing seems to help. Yesterday I was crying in pain, I had to take 2 Ibruprofen and 2 Paracetamol, whilst applying an anaesthetic dental gel (supposedly the strongest anaesthetic I can buy over the counter) which only lasts 30-45 mins (the tablets take 60-90 mins to kick in) and even then it only reduced the pain, rather than stopped it.
So my question is what can i do about the pain? Any other medication that would do a better job of pain management? Would the doctor/dentist be able to prescribe something? (The gel was expencive so preferably something avaliable on the NHS) If I ask my orthodontist would she end my treatment so I can have the tooth treated or will she just insist that I need to keep my brace on?
Please help me asap as I have to leave soon to go for a brace tightening.
