Gallbladder or something else?

I've noticed lately that occasionally when I eat too much (stuff myself) my back hurts very soon afterwards (kind of lower back pain) Is this a sign that my gallbladder isn't working properly, or could it be something else? My mom just told me to take note of what I'm eating when it happens; I didn't think to do that yet. Tonight I was eating a Cambell's soup casserole (nutrition info: 510 calories, 18g fat, 9 fiber) I did eat a lot of it; this doesn't usually happen when I eat normally. I'd say this happens maybe once a week or every other week. Any ideas?

Re: Gallbladder or something else?

Oh, and what should/can I do about it? I don't have insurance, but would you recommend going to my dr anyways? It would cost me a lot so it'd have to be important (let me know if you think this is important)

Re: Gallbladder or something else?

just exactly where is this pain located in your back,on the R side or the L side? any pain inthe front on either side? when it comes to eating and having pain following, it can be many possibles unfortunetly. the only real way of knowing if something truely is wrong would have to be with some testing done with a doc appt at the very least. running basic labs would possibly help in narrowing things down or seeing if all functions are just running at the normal. the GB can be one of the possibles but the pancreas too can also give you problems that both of these could be connected to eating then pain types of things? running labs on the hepatics and also checking on the pancreatic enzymes would be two highly helpful tests to just have run. the pancreatic enzymes are the amylaise and lipase. but if you do go see the doc, they might as well run ALL of the basic labs which would include kidney functions andthe overall metabolics too. this is what i would try and have done if i were in this situation.

but you just really DO need to seek out a docs help here in order to really find out what is creating this after eating type of pain. any other GI symptoms going on? good luck with this and please keep me posted, marcia

Re: Gallbladder or something else?

Thank you for your reply Marcia!
The pain is located on the lower/middle of the back, usually on my left side. I really haven't had any pain in the front at all. Reading the symptoms, I don't really think I have any others... just the back ache after eating a large meal. It happens roughly once a week/ once every two weeks.
Thank you for your advice on the dr, too. I unfortunately have to visit my dentist first (that should be a fun bill... no insurance for the dentist either; my filling came out because I chew too much gum) However, I am going to see my dr soon. Do you think it's okay to wait a month or two? The dentist is going to probably cost me a lot, so I will have to save up to pay my dr. The symptoms aren't that frequent...
Another question; is there anything I should be doing now to help? Obviously not eat until I am really full... And I'm going to take notice of exactly what I am eating the next time it happens.
And one more: can I really be having these problems already? I'm only 23!!! I do admit, however, that I am overweight and for most of my life have had bad eating habits... so it probably is possible...
Thanks again!
