Lip stings on corners/sides

well basicly my lips have been fine until today (2nd nov 09) where I find that the corners of my lips sting when I try to open my mouth fully, I have no idea what caused it, but I think my girlfriend had something like it on her lips, it looks bright red, feels dry and scabby but isn't very visible but rather painful and irritating.

here is a picture of some lips pointing out where the sore is incase you didn't know what I was talking about

[DELETED]

-note, these are not my lips just some random lips I found on google

so please try help me figure out what caused it, what I can use to help it and when it will go away, thanks.
