Wellbutrin for Anxiety & Obsessive thoughts?

My doc feels I need an snri not a ssri so she switched me from lexapro to wellbutrin SR 100mg for my anxiety.

How is wellbutrin? Does it work well?

She seems confident.

Thanks for your help.

It is actually Bupropion HCL SR that she gave me. Does it cause weight gain? I hope not because I just lost a lot of weight after getting off lexapro before so I DO NOT want to get it back!

Wellbutrin for anxiety ? Wow, it tends to increase anxiety . I am on Wellbutrin for depression, it has definitely increased my GAD , however.

Re: Wellbutrin for Anxiety & Obsessive thoughts?

Really strange. my doc prescribed zoloft-that made me anxious and feel sick, then lexapro but I gained a ton of weight and felt out of it, then prozac and I completely freaked out and had one huge panic attack which lasted for one month, now I am on wellbutrin because she says it targets anxiety??!!

This is a trusted respected doc. What is she doing to me?!

have most people experienced heightened anxiety with wellbutrin??

Re: Wellbutrin for Anxiety & Obsessive thoughts?

I have depression and anxiety and am on a low dose of wellbutrin. any more than 150mg and i go manic. like you i stopped taking lexapro because i gained 20lbs. Now I am on Lamictal and has leveled me out quite well. For me they work well together and I have been on almost everything. I would suggest telling her you cant tolerate the medication she is prescribing and seek other options. by the way, i have not gained weight on either meds.

good luck to you

Re: Wellbutrin for Anxiety & Obsessive thoughts?

I take Wellbutrin AND Valium. I, however, have low dopamine, which Wellbutrin is supposed to help slow the reuptake of. I also take straight dopamine twice a day. (They thought that I had Parkinson's, my level was so low...turned out to just be severe depression and anxiety, even though I didn't feel one bit depressed. At least THAT'S what they tell me.) Anyway.....I digress.......the two together, Wellbutrin and Valium really seems to be helping with my severe anxiety.
