Turp a success but Scar tissue

It is a great comfort to read the messages on this board and share the experiences.

I have two questions and if anyone can help that would be great...thank you.

I am a fit man, I damaged my prostrate after a fall from a bike, my flow dried up. I had a Turp done here in Ireland on the 27th July 2009 all went well until about six weeks later the flow slowed to a dribble, the diagnosis was Scar Tissue.

I went back to hospital on October 2nd and had it removed, but bleed during the procedure and needed a transfusion. Nothing serious but a traumatic scary day. My Urologist said that the Scar Tissue was was quite bad and the cause of my problems.

I have been able to pee since then but....my Urologist suggested he insert the camera on October 28th to see if there was a return of the Scar Tissue anywhere. To my disappointment he could not insert the Camera because the shaft/neck of the pensis was too tight and would have had to put me under with a full anesthetic.

He presented me with a Spigot ( blunt golf tee) and gel to insure I could keep the top of the penis open. It is not as bad as it reads and I am able to do it without much inconvenience.

I try to have a positive outlook, I can see anxiety will only bring problems.

I am peeing freely still a small bit of discomfort now and then in the penis as I am doing it.

My urologist has said that should the flow dry up again, I will have get it removed again. He seems to feel that the body will settle down and leave a gap for me to have an adequate flow, eventually.

My questions:

Scar Tissue...does it eventually settle down in this situtation?

Spigot...are their any tips on using it?

Thank you for taking the time to read this and the best of luck to everybody.

Tom.

Re: Turp a success but Scar tissue

Hi,

I had a TURP done last december and just turned 40.
Everything seemd fine afterwards but on my 6 monthly follow up and with him using the camera I had a stricture he couldnt get passed so was booked in to have it done under general.
Well 3 weeks ago they removed two strictures and had a partial resection of the turp again.
Everything flowing great till 3 days ago.
Now I feel as they I'm pushing harder to wee and its not coming out as fast. Also feel slight discomfort around my backside.
Ring up the Doctor only to be told he is on holiday till end of next week they will try emailing him.

Great!

Re: Turp a success but Scar tissue

Soory to hear that things are not going to well for you mccltd.

I have a visit scheduled for my Urologist, just to discuss options. I can feel as I pee restriction in the neck of the Penis so its wait and see what he says.

I am no Doctor but...as many others have said on this site the recovery time for a Turp is at least four months, often a lot longer and the pathway is different for everybody. I was fortunate to discuss the recovery path with someone who went throught it and he had discomfort around the bum area at odd intervals, sometimes lasting two or three days for more then a year after his operation.

His doctor, felt that it came from different things that caused movement in the sensitive area which stays inflamed for a long time. Going for a poo, sitting in the car for a lenght of time, on the couch. The slightest agitation would cause the discomfort for hours and sometimes days.

That explanation makes sense to me, I think it is easy to upset the inflamation and the consequences can often drain your confidence and have you thinking that all is going wrong. Its not, most of the time it is just a frustrating part of the healing process.

Anxiety is the enemy here, this whole process can really mess with your head. I often have the feeling that I will not be able to pee first thing in the morning and during the day I am certain things are slowing down, so I drink a bit more and the flow is stonger. Who knows?

Stay strong and positve, the only way to go forward, but hard at times.

If you wish... keep in touch and I will look in often and reply.

All the best.

Tom.
