Fighting diagnosis/doctors for years. HELP!

I have been suffering with symptoms of hypothyroidism as well as MIGRANES for YEARS...(going on 20 years now). I can't convince anyone I see that I need help. I can't seem to find a doctor who will do more than the TSH test and they all say it is in the "normal" range every time, even though I am EXHAUSTED, no sex drive what-so-ever, no outer eyebrows, wake up every night between 2:30 and 3:00 a.m. and can't go back to sleep, always cold (the highest temp I ever had at the doctors office was 97), etc.

I had saliva test in 2004 these were the results:

Progesterone was 81 (range 100-600)
Estradiol 2.1 (range 1.0-5.0)
Testosterone 37 (range 20-50)
DHEAS 3.7 (range 3-10)

The last TSH test 6/16/08 was 2.82 (range .27-4.20)

I have a many of questions but want to start with these.
1. Based on the above info do you think that I might have be hypo?
2. Could hypo also be a contributing factor to my migranes?
3. Does anyone recommend or have any experience with any doctors in Iowa, South Dakota or Nebraska that might actually listen to me and would be willing to prescribe natural thyroid if needed?

Re: Fighting diagnosis/doctors for years. HELP!

With your TSH and symptoms I would hazard a guess you are indeed hypo, with probably some adrenal fatigue thrown in for good measure, given your long undiagnosed state.

Keep looking for a doc who will listen and get the right labs done. You can order them yourself online if you can't find anyone right away. Be sure to get these tests:
Free T3
Free T4
TPO antibodies
TG antibodies
Vitamin D
Vitamin B12
Ferritin
24 hour saliva cortisol

Your story is a familar one to many of us. In your area of the US it's possible that good thyroid docs are few and far between. Ask your pharmacists if they have any docs that prescribe natural thyroid hormones, they might have some leads for you.

Re: Fighting diagnosis/doctors for years. HELP!

This seems to be a big problem with doctors. I am scared to death when I go to my Endo. I'm not going to get any answers. This is all I think about. People think I am a hypochondriac but I know there is something wrong. How do you get doctors to test for everything. I've been doing all of this research so when I go I can say I want you to do all of these different test. From what everyone is saying it is doubtful he will.

Re: Fighting diagnosis/doctors for years. HELP!

You don't have to go to an endo to get properly tested, I went to my PCP, a PA and she ran all the thyroid labs I requested. You can also order your own labs online if you don't mind paying for them.

Sorry to say but high expectations from an endo is a dangerous thing to have. Hope to be pleasantly surprised but be prepared to be disappointed. I don't mean to be negative but so many have had poor luck with endos and have had to find non-specialists to help us with our treatment.
