Angry Is there a doctor who doesn't only go by the TSH?

I just saw my 4th doctor this year and once again as soon as he saw my TSH was .007, he told me my dose of 100mcg of Synthroid was too high. Totally disregarded the FT's and my symptoms. I told him I've been on every dose between 50 and 100 and have felt bad on all of them. He had nothing to say. I'm about to scream!!!!!

Re: Is there a doctor who doesn't only go by the TSH?

I am so sorry. I have been to 8 doctors that ONLY LOOK AT TSH My money ran out, as well has patience and health. So, I joined a group and got thru it very well.

It is just so ridiculous. Now if it is your very first test, the TSH can be looked at.But, after being placed on thyroid replacement, it will be suppressed anyway.

Come on docs, lets not look at TSH.

Re: Is there a doctor who doesn't only go by the TSH?

I've been on thyroid replacement for over a year now. My original tsh was 3.7 and since then it's always been below 1. This doc says it's not a pituitary issue since my tsh was high to begin with. I asked about cortisol, but as usual, endos know nothing about that. He wouldn't even offer to look into my symptoms to see if there really was something else causing it.

Re: Is there a doctor who doesn't only go by the TSH?

Slowly the word is getting out that TSH is a terrible test for diagnosing and monitoring treatment of hypothyroidism. But it's almost glacial.

My doc looks at my free T levels and asks about my symptoms. He's rare but there are others out there who do this too. I suggest you try to contact doctors before seeing them to get their take on how they treat hypothyroidism.

Sorry this is so difficult. Poor training and pig headedness on the part of so many doctors is keeping a lot of people very sick.

I may have to plunk down some money and see a D.O. in my area. At least I know they look at your symptoms and also do research if you're not the typical patient. I'm not seeing endo's anymore though. I've seen three and they all seem to have the same attitude. I just don't understand how you can call yourself a doctor yet not care how a patient feels??
