What do you think of this?

I applied for SSDI back in the Spring. Over the summer I saw a disability doctor for a physical evaluation and one for mental. I am still waiting for a decision which is due to be made by November 17. I am hoping that the fact that they are taking right up to the last minute to be a good sign but have no way of knowing.

I have applied twice before and was denied much sooner in the process. They also did not ask me to see any doctors before. I reapplied this time because I had a firm "severe fibromyalgia" diagnosis from a rheumatologist and am seeing a counselor for depression. I am also diabetic, have degenerative disc disease, facet arthritis and had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis as a child which I think is reoccuring now.

I didn't try to appeal the first time. The second time I did call just one lawyer but he wasn't really interested due to my age at the time, 40. I'm now 43.

Any opinions on them taking their time on this?

Re: What do you think of this?

Hi there,
if I am understanding you correctly, you have not heard back from social security at all from the time you applies the thrid time ? In over 8 months? that is along time. Do you have an attorney working on your claim too?
I am not certain if it is good or not that they are taking a long time or not, or if social security is just very back loggged. ou could try and locate wher your claim is. By calling the 1-800 number to see if your claim is at the DDS . This is where all claims are prossessed at first , where a initial decision is made .
Than a letter is sent to you , either you are approved or denied. However be aware that when you start over on your claim you do lose your backpay amounts . That is why it is better to try and continue to keep trying to fight your claim through the process so you do not lose your backpay benifits.
I wish you the best.

Re: What do you think of this?

No, I have heard from them. Just not a decision. I think I applied in either May or June. November 17 is the deadline for an initial decision.

I heard from them when they sent the function report and whatever the other report was for me to fill out. Then they sent me to see a physical doctor and a mental doctor. Now I'm just waiting on the decision.

Do you have a specific Doc or Docs backing you....i.e coming right out and saying you are disabled? And, are you seeing them regularly? Also, what meds are you taking for your condition(s)?

I'd be glad to help as much as I can. Before I write a bunch of comments, I'd like to make sure I know what's going on with your case.

Regard,

Ex

Re: What do you think of this?

I had to reapply as I relocated from one state to another and in doing so had to establish new doctors which took some time. I did not have to amend an onset date as previously noted. I think that hinges on whether you returned to the work force since the initial application. I do want to add that I did not have a doctor's statement backing disability as in my case they simply stated the records would speak for themselves. I do remember the second time, it did take longer to receive a decision. I was turned down at the initial stage and had to go to a hearing some 2 years later. I also was sent to SSA medical and mental evaluation. I think that may have something to do with the delay as well.
