Pooling T3?

I was reading posts and some of you have referred to pooling T3. I think I may be doing this as my regular T3 is normal/high and free t3 is low and reverse t3 is high. I have been on Cytomel and/or Armour before and now my endo and PCP have prescribed different meds. One Cytomel/the other straight T3. I just got new script in the mail today. Which one??? I know I should not be seeing 2 doctors but one checks my nodule and other tries to balance my hormones.

Re: Pooling T3?

Cytomel is Liothyronine Sodium which is T3 so you've probably got one script for the generic T3. I hear the real Cytomel is better though.

Re: Pooling T3?

Sorry!!

I meant one doctor sent script for Cytomel and the other Armour 60 mcg. This is what happens to the brain with Hashi's.

Re: Pooling T3?

No kidding! Gosh that never happens to me...

If you've got high RT3 generally the way to clear it out is with Cytomel. But it's more important to find out what's causing you to make the RT3. This generally happens when you're under stess, either a stressful event or because your adrenals are fatigued and either making too much or two little cortisol. (I've got adrenal fatigue and high RT3).

Are you on thyroid hormones right now? What are you taking? Have you ever tested your adrenals with a saliva test? The Cytomel might help you but if you don't get to the cause of the problem I don't know if it will keep working.

Re: Pooling T3?

Oh big list of things could have caused it I guess - untreated Hashi's for about 20 years, mono at age 46 (bad case), several surgeries, menopause, and the list could go on. As far as other health issues the only for sure is Hashi's. Nothing has been the same since the Mono - did not diagnose for about a month and I did not know what I had, turned into to subacute thyroiditis.

I also have low vitamin D, and calcium.

I was on Cytomel about a year ago and NP took me off for no particular reason except levels looked normal - I do have a little anxiety (sometimes panic) and palps trying to get use to any thyroid drug. My blood sugar also seems to rise a little (possible insulin resistance). Dr. gave me Medrol last week to try and help get adrenals supported.
