Hysterectomy

I'm 33 years old and can't have kids because of the epilepsy and don't want any. I am on birth control (depoprvera) and have been for over 15 years. I've had epilepsy for about 10.

I wan't to have a hysterectomy for all these facts. I've said this to my gyno but he said it's not a good idea and I should wait until I'm a little bit older.

I don't want to get pregnet, even though I am on birth control there is that tiny percent that you can get pregnet.

Has anyone else delt with anything like this, how young do you think is too young?

Re: Hysterectomy

Honestly, a lot of that just depends on your doctor. I'm 27 and my doctors have been trying to talk me into having a hysterectomy for over 10 years. I have a very complicated medical history which plays into the doc's recomendation; I am now seriously considering it.I am single but I don't plan on having children of my own because of passing on my medical issues to my children/grandchildren and I have tried so many other things with no luck I feel I'm at my last string and the only thing I haven't tried that they have recommended is the hysterectoy. One of the doc's I saw recommended some kind of shot which puts the body into a medically induced menopause to see how my body and the seizures would respond. They said that how I responded to the medically induced medopause would most likely be similar to how my body would respond to a hysterectomy and that way we would know more if there was really a chance of it helping the seizures or not. I am actually planning on calling and setting up an appt. with my GYN on Mon. to talk about hysterectomy again. I am currently on a progesterone only IUD which is helping the seizures some but not enough and it is making my gain a ton of weight.

Are your seizures hormone related? If the only reason you want the hysterectomy is to avoid pregnancy than that is lable to be why the doc. isn't going along with it. With me it is purely for medical purposes not anything to do with avoiding pregncancy. For me even if it doesn't help seizures it would stop the heavy bleeding which causes the severe anemia.
Good luck with everything.

Re: Hysterectomy

My sez are not hormone related. I just want one due to the eplispy. I would just feel better getting rid of all of the organs together, like I said before I don't want children and don't want the chance of having them because of the eplispy.

My gyno said that he would feel better if I wait till I'm 35.

I'm on Depoprovara right now to use as birth control, even before I had eplispy. I don't know if I go off of it how having periods might effect me. I know that I used to have very bad pre-menstral periods (cramps, headaches etc...)

Good luck
