blood pressure of 160 over 110

my blood pressure has been 160 over 110, been tested 3 times in last week, lowest was 160 over 105
im 40 male
is there any danger in this, you get told all sort of things like stroke or heart attack any day to the doctor saying its high but nothing else, the doctor did put me on tablets for it
how bad is it??
chest always feels like i can feel my heart beating, hard to sleep at night because of it, after eating is worse too, often get blurry eyes for no reason but is only for a minute or 2 now and then, i wake with sore back, lower right side is very sore to the point i have to help myself out of bed, after i walk around for a while im ok then

any thoughts thanks

Re: blood pressure of 160 over 110

I am not sure exactly what you want to hear? Men can't tolerate a high blood pressures as well as women but the number that is concerning is the lower number which is telling you that your heart isn't resting....So be sure you take your medicine but if it isn't bringing your pressure down then perhaps you need to see the doctor for a possible increase. Whatever is causing your pressure to be so high you need to fix...what did the doctor say you should do?

Re: blood pressure of 160 over 110

consideriong ALL of your symptoms here, have they actually checked out your kidneys? doing the blood labs, and a UA to check for even a trace of protien(protien in ones UA is one of the earliest signs of a possible kidney disease) would show if this is at all related to some type of kidney issue. also obtaining an ultrasound on the whole abdominal would also show a few other things(what could be actually creating the back pain?) and mostly how those kidneys actually 'look' in there.

i am only mentioning the kidneys as it IS the release of renin from the kidneys and adrenal glands that really impact blood pressures overall. but by the same token, the BPs also impact the kidney functions too. its kind of odd but thats how it really does work. there are just many different types of kidney diseaes out there that wont show symptoms or even real changes in the blood labs til a particular 'threshold' is passed with function impairment. i have one of these types of kidney diseases that i was actually born with but did not have a clue til our then 12 year old son got deathly ill from it. that is when i, and the hubby had to have an US done that showed very extensive polycystic kidney disease going on in my kidneys(this was an inherited disease so thats why we had to find out where it came from). but the insane thing was my labs then(1999) and now are actually STILL within the normal ranges. i was actually like 39 years old when i found out i even had this my whole life? but my kidneys and my liver too are really heavily damaged, just not enough to show function impairment yet. but they will eventually change, probably much sooner than later.

this is just one real possibility that may explain all or many of your real symptoms that really just does need to be checked into and at the very least, ruled out. you can never really totally rely ONLY upon blood labs when looking at the possibility of some type of organ issues or disease process going on, they just wont change right away with many types of problems. so it does take that look inside too in order to really get that whole picture. you just would never ever think, based upon ONLY my perfect blood labs that i have as much really extensive damage in those organs as i do. i would just really get this looked into right now as in depth as needed to really just 'see'. hopefully this is only a BP issue in and of itself and not something underlying that is casuing it in you. good luck and please do keep us posted, marcia
