Unhappy My wife needs help

My wife is having what appears to be siezures, they last typically 2-3 hours. She starts with blurred vision which increases to general blindness. She then gets a pins and needle numbness in her left arm. Within 60 seconds she goes into blank stare and i noticed her pupils are fully dilated, she also usually crying with tears of fear. she can not hear or see me. She kind of wakes up from it, but she retains blurred vision and can not form words or even write words down on paper for at least 2 hours after the initial "episode" as I like to call it.
I asked her what she feels when this is happening and she says that she knows something is happening and is aware, but she can not move, speak, hear, smell, or taste anything. She said she just has a deap feeling of confusion and fear.
A few doctors said it could be MS, but the Nuerologist said it was not MS. they think it may be Epileptic Seizures, but even partial or MAl Petit SIezures don't last more than 30 minutes.
We need help.

Re: My wife needs help

Welcome, I wish you were writing under more pleasant circumstances.

I went through several months of seizures that were attributed to MS. I can well empathize with your wife and I must honor you for your devotional support. For me, bed rest was my best medicine. I spent nearly 6 months on bed rest to fully recover. I also found that if I was lying down, the seizures were not as intense (or so it felt).

I have long since cycled out of my seizures and I have not had one in over two years (I think). My service dog was the first to notice something wrong and alerted my family. He has not alerted for a long time, so I feel safe.

I will keep your wife in my prayers. MS can cause seizures. You may need to change your neurologist if you suspect MS or you are not getting satisfactory answers for which you seek.

Re: My wife needs help

It sounds like you need to get to the bottom of this quickly! Im so sorry that your wife is going thru this....it must be terrifying to her (and you).

MS can have seizures accompany it, but MS is also diagnosable based on sevearl other factors. The fact that the Neuro is saying NO, I would question.
Is he a MS doctor? DOes he specilize in any particular type of Neurology?? You might want to find a MS Specialist to get more info...

A good MS specliast can both rule out or dx, MS.

Epilepsy is also diagnosable....but youll need to see a specialist to have the tests done.

I wish you both the best of the best.....please let us know what tests she has had, what type of doctor she has seen, and what the game plan is to get to the bottom of this! We'll be thinking of you...

Re: My wife needs help

Hi,

these episodes are very frightening for both of you I'm certain. I just wanted to let you know that I experience something similar. I have the blurring of vision; muscle spasms and feel very aware of what is going on but feel 'locked in' which feels confusing. These episodes are on and off throughout a day or a number of days and accompanied with head pains, burning and tingling. They are time consuming and disrupt my life currently.

I was diagnosed with MS about 20 years ago but then had a second opinion where I was told no you do not have MS. I'm now waiting for an appointment with a neurologist. I'm looking for answers like you. I hope we both get them soon.

Take care.
