hey all- first time across the boards.
For the past 15 years or so, I've consistently suffered ankle trauma in the form of numerous sprains and breaks. No screws or prior surgeries have been needed as I've really been able to use it, even for sports without problem other than swelling.
However, seeing as I am in a position to be out of action for a little while, I went to an orthopod and had them check it out. It was such an ... interesting feeling when he showed me how unstable my ankle was and how it likely caused a number of my later ankle injuries.
So, I'm scheduled to have my ankle reconstructed next Monday. I'm a little anxious about it, mostly because I have a seven month old who decided to start crawling last week and is already trying to stand.
I have two general questions for folks to comment on if you would be so kind.
1. Has anyone heard of and gone through a procedure where a portion of one's hamstring is used for the reconstruction? (I'm sorry, I'm not sure of the name of the procedure the OS is planning on using).
2. Has anyone done anything this significant with a little one on the move about the place? If so, what kinds of problems and challenges did you find yourself with and what was the best way to deal with them?
Thanks so much in advance! Cheers!
