Angry Un-able to have a stapedectomy due to nerves

A few weeks ago I went into surgery for a stapedectomy. I DIDN'T have the surgery. Found out I have two nerves running directly over the bones and since you can't risk damaging them, surgery is aborted. The two nerves were the taste buds and a facial nerve. Doctor was VERY concerned that she had damaged my facial nerve, kept asking me to make faces at her to check my face.
Now, my next hope is to get a BAHA hearing aid, not sure if insurance will pay for it.

has anyone else have this happened to them? schedule surgery, go under anesthesia and come out without the surgery? all due to nerve placement which most likely happened in the womb???????

Oh, and since the non-surgery, my hearing is worse, you see they took the top layer off of the bones, before finding the nerves so now I've lost more very quickly instead of losing it over time.

awww almost deaf, i'm so sorry. YES, i have heard of that happening. Right before i went under for mine, my dr. reminded me that if that were the case with me, he would not be able to operate, too risky...i guess you are just one in a million i hope the hearing aid route works well for you...what about your other ear??

Re: Un-able to have a stapedectomy due to nerves

hi niteskylover,
thanks for the kind words. My other appears to be fine, with the usual aging hearing loss.
I did try the BAHA hearing aid in the doctors office, worked great.

but whether or not the insurance pays for it, I'll get some type of hearing aid.
I won't be depressed forever and will move on.

thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one...

I'm so sorry. How frustrating and disappointing! I have not encountered your problem, but just wanted to offer my support. I hope the aid is covered and your other ear continues to work well for you!
