Re: 5htp

I've been using 5-htp for two years now and literally can't live without it! It definitely helps with anxiety and depression. My natural doc said I could do up to 400 mg a day with no problems. Normal dose is 100 mg first thing in the morning and right before bed. I'm really sensitive to many things, but had no issues with 5-htp at all. Good Luck!

Re: 5htp

I really appreciate you talking to me about this. I really need the input, I have some issues with 5HTP and need some help
Did you automatically start feeling better? and did you need to start slow and gradually build up? I have tried taking a full dose(100mg) and can't seem to tolerate it, so I open the cap and just take alittle maybe 20 mg. Can I asked why you started taking it? I have anxiety and depression issues and just can not tolerate antidepressants, so I am trying to find something natural. Thank you

Re: 5htp

I'm taking it for depression and anxiety. Can I ask what kind of reaction you are having? I started with 100 mg 2x/day on an empty stomach and was fine. It took 2-3 days for me to start feeling better. But believe me, I've had reactions to just about EVERYTHING else, so I completely understand what you are going through. Remember that just because you react to the 5-htp doesn't mean something else might not work!

Re: 5htp

Hi, debo3. I took 5-HTP for about a year and a half and it worked really well for my depression and anxiety. It should be taken on an empty stomach, this helps it get better metabolized. Taking a good B-complex vitamin with it will also help with metabolization. I started with 50mg and increased it every two weeks by 50mg. The optimum dose for me was 200mgs, which is a high dose. I took it in the morning. It usually makes people sleepy so they take it at night. I'm an oddball, though, it kept me up if I tried taking it at night.
