Glucosamine may help about half the people who try it for osteoarthritis. It can be slow to start working. People need to stay on it for at least three months, sometimes six months, before giving up on it.

Most doctors push drugs, not natural treatments and vitamins, and diet, etc.

To name a few of daily supplements that can be helpful are odorless Fish oil, magnesium , glucosamine .

Keep in mind what gives relief to one person, may not for another.

Wish you well

Careful with G&C if you have diabetes, it can play havoc with blood sugar.

Omega-3 is good for general health, anti inflammatory and helps lower cholesterol, but I don't think it does anything specific for osteoarthritis. I prefer food based omega 3 supplementation, maple glazed salmon with a walnut spinach salad is so much more tasty than pills! (flaxseed, salmon, sardines, anchovy, chia seeds, walnuts, walnut oil, fresh basil, spinach, etc)

The herbal supplement Thundergod Vine has been used as an OTC anti inflammatory and shows promise in clinical studies. Acupuncture has been shown to help knee osteoarthritis. On another thread Ronnied just mentioned Evening Primrose oil for inflammatory arthritis.

You can find factual info on these supplements, including clinical studies and new research, on the NCCAM website: http://nccam.nih.gov/health/arthritis/

* Oh! And ask your doc to test your B12 and vitamin D, they're often low in people with chronic pain.
