Arthroscopy and Brostrom procedure

Hello everyone! Hope you all are having a good weekend so far. Monday I am having my surgery I'm quit nervous, but I know I am in good hands. I wish I knew exactly how much pain I will be in and how long will it will be before I am able to run again. Can anyone give me some reassurance or advice? Would greatly appreciate any feedback given. Have a great day!

Re: Arthroscopy and Brostrom procedure

My doctor proposes to do a "left ankle arothoscopy removal of impinging tibiotalar osteophytes and split peroneal tendon transfer" His PA told me it is called a "Brostrum ligament reconstruction". I am not in pain, as long as I don't jump or pivot. I can walk, dance, swim, do yoga(somewhat limited) and bicycle without problem. I cancelled my backpacking trips this past summer and stopped doing Congolese dance because the doctor said it would cause extreme worsening of the "post-traumatic osteoarthritis" that I already have. I would like to be backpacking, skiing, and doing more strenuous dancing. I am wondering if it is the right decision for me to get the surgery. Of course, I only want to do it if I can be pretty sure that I will be able to have improved movement and activity level afterwards. Please advise. I have the surgery scheduled for November 20.

Re: Arthroscopy and Brostrom procedure

I'm having a similar surgery December 10. I was told full recovery in 14-16 weeks. So back to running, skiing, and everything else I love to do. This is my third ankle surgery. Since my H&P appointment isn't until Dec. 4, I have not had the opportunity to ask many of my questions. I've just been writing them down. Pain wise, I figure it can't be any worse than my bilateral tailors bunion surgery. I was told splint, cast, walking cast, boot, PT. Can't remember the timeline though.

Re: Arthroscopy and Brostrom procedure

Hey - I'm new to this forum. "Left," I have a situation very similar to yours! I completely ruptured my peroneal brevis tendon. I have a surgery scheduled for March (~3 weeks), where the doc proposes to sew the stump of the p. brevis to the p. longus, and then do a Brostrum procedure to help out ankle stability.

Thing is - I'm pretty functional now, and am able to do everything except hiking and field sports. I even am re-introducing running. It seems odd to go into surgery when I'm not in a lot of pain, and I'm basically (though not completely) functional.

How did it turn out for all of you guys?? Any advice??
