Talking H1N1 hit local Lupus support group

I learned at the local meeting of our Lupus Support Group that two people have already had H1N1. One person suffered more than the other , but of course it wasn't a picnic for either of them. We have the same theumy who told me in response to an email query I sent him that the benefits of the vaccine far outweigh the risks. I'm with him!

Re: H1N1 hit local Lupus support group

Thanks for the information Shewolf. I'll get the shot once I find some vaccine. I found a clinic on Monday but it is 60 miles away. I'll go if I can't find anything closer and I'm flying after Thanksgiving and being in a closed plane with all those possibly sick people really freaks me out.

Re: H1N1 hit local Lupus support group

I have Lupus and have spent the past 6 days fighting the H1N1. I am an elementary school teacher. I did not have the H1N1 shot. Its not too bad. Just tired and symptoms are like the worst colds I have ever had. I spent most of the days resting. My Dr. said there was really nothing she could do since the worst of this was already over. I waited too long to get in to her office...not my choice, she was double booked. Now I am taking the Zpack. 3 pills/ 3 days of antibiotics. I feel much better today after the first pill. Still tired but getting plenty of rest and lots of fluids.

Re: H1N1 hit local Lupus support group

I had an appointment with my oncologist last week. When he heard I had been unable to get a H1N1 shot he called a colleague to borrow a dose, my husband ran across town to pick it up while I started my rituxan treatment, and the chemo nurse gave me the shot. So I'm all set. I have lymphoma in my lungs so doc didn't want me to have flu with a respiratory component. I'll still be freaked by flying on Friday but not as freaked.

Well, sounds like you have the bases covered. I understand the weather in your area is a bit cold and damp (my parents in Point Pleasant fill me in lol) so bundle up and keep hydrated. I read to drink hot tea (breathe in the steam to keep nose moist) when flying. Have a wonderful holiday.
