vas ?

this is a serious question which is causing a great deal of anxiety. I am scheduled to have a vasectomy in 3 weeks and an very anxious. I know there is nothing "erotic" about the procedure, but when i get nervous i become partially erect and fear this happening when laying on the table exposed to the doc/nurse. I did get a presription for valium and hope that causes enough relaxation, but still very nervous. during the consult i did get a partially erect and nothing was said. what happens if this happens during the procedure? any advice would be very helpful!

Re: vas ?

I had this procedure in the physicians office afterhours in November 1960 with no problems. So, I did not have to take time off from work. After the numbness wore off I did take a mild medication for pain. Remember to monitor the sperm count for six weeks afterwards. Good luck.

Re: vas ?

Brad,

Nothing to worry about. For mine there was no nurse, just the doctor. He injected a local anesthetic. He said there would be some pain from the needle which there was. After that it was pretty quick, and he explained each step such as cutting the vas, putting on clamps to close it off, etc. He didn't give me a prescription for pain and I didn't need anything. I did it on a Friday afternoon and took it easy over the weekend. There was a lot of purple skin for a couple of weeks afterward but it didn't hurt.

I got my wife to go with me - she's not at all squeamish - so that was a big help. I told the doc when I made the appointment that she was coming into the room with me and he was OK with that.

By the way, mine was a no-scalpel vasectomy so there was just a little hole and no stitches.

Good luck and don't worry about it.

KG

Re: vas ?

Relax Brad if you get an erection then so be it. Doctors and nurses have seen plenty of erections. It's no big deal to them and shouldn't be to you either.
