Anyone have pancreatitis?

Not sure if this is the right topic to post this, so I apologize if it has to be moved.

I was recently diagnosed very anemic, hypothyroidism, and low potassium. For over a year my amylase and lipase have roller-coastered from normal levels (below 100) up to the 700's. My doc sent me to someone to get it checked out, thinks it might be pancreatitis. I've had an ultrasound, no gallstones.

When my levels are high I have alot of abdominal pain, and some other symptoms. Is it pancreatitis? If so can the doc do anything for me? And until then what can I do to ease the pain?

Thank you

Re: Anyone have pancreatitis?

I have had a few episodes of Pancreatitis. Mine was always acute and your sounds chronic. Pancreatitis is supposed to be the worst pain and I would agree. It is unbearable and during my attacks I am always in the Er and immediately put on pain medicine. I finally had a procedure where they went in the cut a larger opening in the duct of the pancreas. That was 3 years ago and I have had no symptoms since that time. My pancreatitis is autoimmune and my procedure may not apply to your problem. I hope your doc can find a way to ease your suffering. I know how bad it can be.

Re: Anyone have pancreatitis?

Thank you for your input. I've had kidney stones surgically removed before, and my internal pain tolerance is pretty high now. But the pancreatic attacks definitely rate right under the stones.

I had a catscan (and an allergic reaction to the IV contrast for the first time ever). The techs told my doc that they didn't see anything, but my doc wants to wait til he gets to see it before he makes any conclusions.

His theory is that my gallbladder is producing small stones that are lodging in my pancreas; so he wants to remove my gallbladder. At this point I've cut out all fatty and dairy foods, and am still having trouble. He also mentioned ulcer, but that he thought it wasn't likely. I'm sick of being sick.

Re: Anyone have pancreatitis?

I was advised that fat and caffiene stimulated pancreatitis. So it might help to avoid those and eat small, small amounts. When I was having attacks, I couldn't eat anything at all. But to control yours it might help to figure out what sets yours off. After my surgery, i ate completely fat free and was very careful to not eat very much. It did seem to calm things down.

Re: Anyone have pancreatitis?

I had cut out fatty foods over a year ago. The GI already scheduled to have my gallbladder taken out, with no grounds for it. I'm still waiting for some other tests that my regular doctor ordered, I will no have surgery to have an organ removed until there's proven reason to do so.
