Question Why did my allergies improve permanently?

For years, while I was growing up and all through college, I had severe allergies to all kinds of things - particularly ragweed, animal dander, and assorted other fall allergens. It was bad enough that I took allergy shots for three years while I was in college. After graduating I joined the Army and was stationed overseas (in England) for two years. By the time I came back to the States, my allergy problems had become minor (and have stayed that way) compared to what they were before I left.

I understand why allergies can improve dramatically with a change of location, but does anyone know why the improvement would be permanent?

Re: Why did my allergies improve permanently?

Just the luck of the draw! And for some, the shots work for life. For others, 10 years is good. And allergies do change for most people over time. I'm still allergic to all the things I've always been allergic to - but they've moved around in severity. Under the old, old scoring system, cats were about a 4 on a 12 point system. Now they are a 4 on a 4 point system. And dogs reversed the other way - from bad to better. It is not a very exact science. Just be glad and keep an eye out for them to start up at some point in the future.

I have no clue, however, count your blessings!!

Allergies can get better or worse as we age, our immune system is an amazing machine!
