Re: side effects of antihistimine

I assume you're taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or something similar that causes drowsiness.

It's not "unhealthy". Diphenhydramine has been around since 1943, is very safe and very effective (and is used as both an antihistamine and a sleep aid - it is the main sleep inducing ingredient in Nytol).

If you're taking it regularly to fall asleep you might be better off trying to figure out why you need a sleep aid so frequently - obviously it's never good to take more medication than you need and you can become somewhat dependent on it to help you fall asleep over time.

Re: side effects of antihistimine

Not at all, if it helps you sleep. Sleep is at the top of your healthy priorities.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a netti pot or some source of saline rinse to keep nasal membranes moist and clear. Anti-histamines dry them out, leaving you with a pretty heavy chance of infection or bacterial growth. Once a day will do the trick with the netti. Remember to drink plenty of water too!

Re: side effects of antihistimine

I take it nights to sleep and have been for years. I havent had any bad side effects. I guess my body is used to it because i dont feel too drowsy in the mornings anymore.
