So I was on the Depo Birth Control shot for about a year and had to get off of it cuz my insurance ran out when I turned 19 so my last shot was in April 09' and I was suppose to get my next shot in July 09' but didn't. Now I know that the Depo shot is known for causing fertility problems because it can stay in your system for awhile after being on it. I've been having unprotected sex a few times every month since and the last time I had sex was November 14th and 15th. The shot made me not have periods and the closest to a period I've had so far since I've been off the shot was a few spotting and one time in October (last month) around the 16th I think, I had a heavier spotting then I've been having so I'm not sure if that is considered to be a period. Anyways I'm wondering if there is a chance that the shot is out of my system now and if I could get pregnant? Has it been long enough for the shot to be out of my system?
You need to have protected sex unless you are wanting to become pregnant. I got pregnant on depo, it was my first shot. I have talked to others who have also gotten pregnant while on depo. So don't count on the fact that some people don't get pregnant for a while after going off.
