Question Swollen Glands w/ TMJ?

I was diagnosed with TMJ about a week ago. This morning when I woke up I noticed I had two big knots on my face and the back of my neck. The knots are on my glands (one right under my cheek bone parallel to my ear) and my glands in my throat seem to be pretty sore too. Has anyone experienced swollen or sore glands or even knots from TMJ?

Hi,

I have had this happen to me in the past but didnt think to connect it with TMJ, I have learn so much more about tmj since joining this borad...Where else is your tmj pain? I had so many others things happen and didnt relieze it was from my tmj untill I read stories from others...
Try to start treatment for your tmj as soon as you can if you can fix it in the early stages you wont suffer like a lot of us later....

Hope you feel better,

Starr

Exclamation

I have pain just about everywhere...I have it most in my ears...and then I also have it all over my face, my neck, shoulders, and sometimes my arms get real stiff...The pain is pretty bad...A heating pad usually will take it away for 5 to 10 minutes..but I haven't had any success with Advil or any over-the-counter medicines...I'm only 18 and most of the doc.'s I've been to have offered no kind of pain pills to me..I kind of wonder if it's b/c I'm young...I've been wanting to ask if I could have some for like emergency cases when it gets really bad, but I'm not real sure how to even bring it up.. I don't want them to think that I'm a drugie.. because I'm not.. does anyone have any advice on how to do this?? or should i just leave it up to them???

Jennifer,
It is pretty tough to get pain meds from a dentist to treat TMJD.
Their treatment usually consists of numerous splints that "sometimes" do nothing. They may give anti-inflammatories but other than that, I really don't think they will prescribe anything. Read up on myofacial pain syndrome, it usually goes along with TMJD.
Take care,
Elaine
