Question Helping with pain

I have been diagnosed with TMJ since May and I have been having a lot of pain radiating from my jaw line up to my ear. Does anyone else feel like a big drug seeker when you ask your phsyician for pain killers? I have gotten tylenol with codeine to start and have asked her the other day for something else as the tylenol is not helping at all. I now have vicodin, which is she gave me a small prescription, one that will not last very long if my pain keeps up the way it is. HOw do you ask your physician without feeling like a big addict? Do you normally get a longer prescription than just 25 pills? DOes anyone take something that may help more?
Thanks for your advice, and great support.
Susie

hi Susie,

I am new to this board too. but I can tell you that wearing a mouth guard has really helped my pain. I am pregnant and can not take any meds. i still have some discomfort but a lot less now. Just go to a store like Meijer or Walmart, or something like that. Go to the Sports aisle and get one that they wear for football. Wear it at night. should help your pain.....

Good luck

I feel the same way, It seems like they "say " they understand..if they understood what kind of pain you were in they would give you whatever it took to get you out of pain! I went to the doctor today and I had to beg for some pain pills, it is just not right, we shouldnt even have to ask! I always feel werid asking but after going to ten doctors not giving me nothing I finally got feed up and said something! Just explain your pain and say he has to give you something or your going to go crazy!

Those mouth pieces in the store dont work for me at all!! they made me worse!!

Good luck!
