Question New to group...

I am new here and just thought I would check out the "small print"
before posting. My question concerns the Health Boards policy
on "Freedom of Speech". I wonder if I can post topics (obviously
addiction related matter) without the fear of being persecuted or
silenced for my views?
Thankyou.

Hi Andylope2002:
I am new myself. If you are asking if people ON THIS BOARD will persecute you.....I would have to say no. My experience has been that the people using this board are experienced, caring, hopeful, wonderful people. The only thing they've ever offered me is advice, hope, ideas, direction and a shoulder to lean on. I say go for it. Tell your story. You'll be glad you did.

This is my first time to post but I have been reading for a couple of weeks. I took 1 to 2 vicoprophen once a day for a year but now am up to 4 or 5 (the last month or so) Is is a sure thing that the numbers will creep up? What is it like to stop cold turkey when taking this amount? Thanks for your advice.

Edie,
From my own experience I would say that the numbers WILL creep up....faster than you'll know. The longer you take Vicoprofen (or any narc) the more you need to get the same effect. Why do you think they put the warning "do not double up on doses" on the literature that comes with your script? Because when you take more, you definately end up NEEDING more to get the same effect. I took Vicoprofen for 5 years (and still battle with it). It all started with a car accident and 1 pill every 4-6 hours as needed for pain. Then, it went to two pills, then 3, then 4. Then, I found myself starting my day with 6 pills all at once. By lunch time I'd taken anywhere from 10-20. Not good. Please be careful. W/D's are not fun. I have detoxed myself at home three times. Went to my Dr., told him everything, and he prescribed things to help me get off the Vike's. He gave me: Ibuprofen (because that's what's in Vico's), Darvocet (for pain), Folic Acid, prescrition strength Immodium, something prescription strength for nausea, Atarax (to help me sleep), Clonadine patches(to keep my blood pressure even) and Klonapin (like Valium). W/D symptoms I get are: no energy, diarrea, leg twitches, can't sleep, really bad chills, no appetite, etc. Not fun. Not fun. Not fun. Do you think you could stop on your own right now? If not, my advice to you is to talk to your Dr. asap and quit now. Maybe he/she can taper you off, but you will need really good willpower not to veer from your schedule. Good luck. Let me know how you do. I'm routing for you!

I am not sure I am ready to quit. I keep rationalizing that it is really not that many... and i really do have headaches....I don't drink (much) or have other vices. I work out, eat right and am in great shape. I am too smart to really believe it is okay that is why I found this board..BUT I am weak. I am a single professional mom who takes care of everyone (three well adjusted girls) I have a great boyfriend...so why I need this crutch I'm not sure, except addiction issues definatly run in my family. My sister also takes vp daily. The thought of quitting the vp's makes me crazy. I have access to them as I used to me married to a doctor and have many friends who are MDs. of course they give them to me for legit reasons Are you totally clean now? How did you stop?
