Thumbs down 6-12month contin abuser trying to detox

Hello All,
I am hopeful someone can provide some answers to my questions. First off, let me say I have no medical history, I didn't start taking 40mg and 80mg oxycontin's for pain relief, I have never left the time release on a pill, these pills have ONLY gone up my nose. That being said, it is obvious I am an abuser of this narcotic. I am out of town, trying to detox from these things, physically (I can work on the mental aspect of abuse when I can physically function again). I don't know anything about pills, and was unaware of the drug I was taking at the time (before I was hooked). I don't take any other pills such as ativan (not sure of the spelling) or valium, vicoden, or any other codone based pills (not meaning that ativan or valium has codone in it, just trying to portray my innocence in the pill world). I will check myself into a hospital if I have not become free of these things by the first week of August. The biggest problem I have with the withdrawl is being unable to sleep. Sleep patterns are messed up for weeks sometimes months after abusing this narcotic, I understand. Is there anything I can have my family doctor prescribe me for the pain of withdrawl from oxycontin? for sleep especially? How long does this narcotic stay in your system for, physically? How long does it take to detox from it...? I have gone (most recently) 6 days without and still felt like ending my life. I need help, want help, will check myself in somewhere if that is the best solution to my problem, but I am mentally strong (or have been in the past) so I was hoping to take care of this little (HUGE) problem without anyone catching on... I can take 80mg/day (usually two 4-0'z), sometimes I get carried away but my experience has been that anything past 120mg (at once) will send me to the floor with an excruciating headache pain (that only happened once). I have not turned anywhere but to this website for help... any information anyone could provide me would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Illkid, I also take oxycontin, but 20mgs. I have been on them for a while and I know what it feels like to run out for a day or two or three, I know its really really BAD and that doesnt even begin to describe it at all!!!! I f you are on day 6 you should start feeling better any day now, just dont throw away those six hard days!!! I would get your family M.D. to precribe you something for sleep, I take Ambien and it really does the job!! Also you may wanna take something to help calm you down and control the fast heartbeats, like zanax or something like that, but if you are back on them now I would tapper down the dosage and dosage times, that will ease your withdrawals alot! It takes some dicipline, but it will help if you get down to only one pill a day if you can! Do you think you can do this (tapper I mean)?

rlcowboy thanks so much for the quick reply...
I'm not on day 6 anymore, haven't been for about two weeks...
In fact I blasted a 4-0 last night.
I don't want to take ANY of these things ANYMORE.
I don't want to take 20mgs/day, I dont want anything to do with oxy.
The most important thing for me is sleep, I want to be able to sleep. I want to take something that will help me sleep, put me RIGHT OUT FAST.
I have two TEC's, 5mg/codone with tylenol.
I was going to take 1/2 tomorrow when I wake up, so I can actually make it to the gym, and the other 1/2 before I go to sleep (try to anyways). I was going to do this again the next day with the other TEC. Then I am planning to never touch these pills again.
I can handle the tears, pain, crapping, muscle/joint pain, whatever whatever...I just want to be put to sleep by something, I want to sleep this thing off.

illkid~ hi..Im sin adn Im 43 and I have 2 wonderful children. My oldest is 18 and my youngest is 13. I don't know how old you are but you sound pretty young given you have just taken the oxys to get high. I think about my son so much because I honestly say I know addictive behavior(personality) is heriditary. Or that's what I beleive. Anyway~ can you go to your Doctor? You need to and I don't know if you are at a point where you can tell him what you are going thru ut if not, It may take some creativity to get you something to make you sleep. You need to find some Ambien, thats a sleeping pill. Please go to your Doctor. You're not having too much problem with the other w/d's? If it's sleep that you need try some OTC (Over the Counter) sleep aids, but DONT take more than the box prescribes. Im sure you are aware of the drugs that cause you to become sleepy. If not ask us and be specific. My heart goes out to you and please keep in touch with us here on this board we all care and don't want to see anybody go down the same path we have "chosen"....I know I choose to abuse my meds. and I stopped taking them for legit pain years ago. When I did get clean 4 years ago, my headaches were so few and far between. I still had them, but not everyday like I have them now, Yes, rebound headahes I know. But~ illkid, you hang in there, dont let this ruin your life and get you. You sound strong, if I can help pleaase post here and I will respond.
