Post NEED HELP , ADVICE FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN THERE

Allrigt. I am addicted to Hydrocodone.
I take approx 10-12 a day (10mg). I have been taking them for about 4 months (not 10-12 for all that time, I built in to that, but about four months total).

I need to get pff them. What I want to know is what kind of wd's might I expect? Should I taper onto something else (likle Codeine, or Tramadol)?

Just looking for some advice if anyone has been in a similiar situatuon.

Thanks.

Disco,
There is a fella that goes by the name of "philster" who knows his stuff about tapering. If he doesn't respond to this thread by tonight, you might want to start a new thread with his name in the topic.

Tapering is best done very slowly. I never could do it. I even would try to get my wife to help by rationing the pills out to me and I would end up tearing the house apart until I found where she had hid them and... boom... down the hatch 15 or 20 of them would go.

Have you ever been addicted to anything before? With only 4 months use, I wouldn't expect the WDs to be that bad if you went cold turkey. You may want to give it a shot. Be sure to drink lots of water and have some Immodium handy.

Why do you "need" to get off them right now? Are you going to be tested? Do you drink ETOH? If so, do you plan on continuing to drink ETOH even if you are able to kick the pills? How old are you?

Let us know and stay in touch.

Thanks for the reply.
I am 31.
I need to get off them, because I can see where it will lead, and I don't want to be there.

I have no pain. I am simply an abuser who got a taste for the pills and started getting them from online providers.

Discostu: I am no expert but I have been there. You have a great opportunity based on the info you have allowed. It still will not be a cake walk. I have taken hydro for 7-8 years. You will have diahrea, Imodium will help. Of course everyone's system is different.

You may have problems sleeping and may experience flu-like symptoms. You may get pale. I would drink plenty of fluids and vitamins. I would stay as active as your body would allow because that keeps your mind occupied.

Also over the counter tylenol pm or other sleep aids may help the first few days. The first few days will be the worst...I have faith you can do it.

Just to give you something as a guide...there have been many members that had been taking more than you and they beat the chain and that is awesome.

I am sure others will give you maybe even better advice. We are behind you no matter and it may be the biggest decision you ever make. I wish for your wellness and I believe in prayer, Think positive, many blessings, Risky Business,

DISCO,
Hi. It's different and unique for everybody - but given that you have only been taking them for 4 months, 10-12/day - and see where it is headed - I would not anticipate your withdrawals being so bad. You won't feel good, and will probably feel like taking another pill at this time to make you feel 'normal'.

I recently relapsed and took 15 vicodins per day for almost 2 months. I did detox with a little bit of medical help, and the withdrawals weren't as bad this time (not compared to years of useage, etc.).

Wise of you to nip it in the bud now.

Kitty
