Post Best support for the Liver?

Hi all,

I was looking for some help for my liver, which is sluggish and, I feelm is responsible for some other symptoms (vision problems, constipation, etc.)

A few people mentioned Silymarin, which I guess is a derivative of Milk Thistle? Anyway, I happened to see it this very day in the Vitamin Shoppe and didn't know what it was.

Does anyone know, would it be more beneficial to take Silymarin itself, or Milk Thistle to help the liver?

Or, what other types of liver supplements would be good? I am open to all suggestions, such as Chinese herbals, etc.

Thanks,
Al

I have the opposite problem with my liver. It is called "tight" in Chinese terms, probably because I no longer have a gallbladder.

I think Chinese boiling herbs are good medicine, especially for liver problems, as the approach is to bring the system into balance again, so it addresses the whole system, not just the symptom.

I think that is exactly what I need, to bring the whole system back into balance, after abusing my liver for years by poor eating habits and excessive stress.

If anyone knows anything detailed about these herbs, I am all ears!

Try to find an OMD (Oriental Medical Doctor). This person will take your pulses (Chinese style on both wrists to determine the condition of all of your organs) and then give you the proper herbs for your particular imbalances. This is much more subtle than Western drugs but you will not experience side effects or end up feeling as if you are putting more toxicity into your system.

Let me know how you fare.

Silmaryn is the active ingredient in milk thistle, so I guess it doesn't really matter whether you take it on its own or as an extract of milk thistle.
