Post Mirena IUD

Hi, I had the Mirena IUD inserted 10 days ago on my doctor's advice. Apparently it has been shown to be very effective in reducing the symptoms of endometriosis. However, since I have had it in I have been bleeding continuously and have really bad cramps. I do have my period as well but this is very much worse than usual.
Anyone out there any any experience with Mirena IUD?
Thanks CAS

Hi,

I had a copper type IUD which I ended up having removed due to an ectopic pregnancy that was facilitated by it's use. Although I don't have personal experience with the Mirena IUD, I have heard about side effects on it during it's use. That aside, when women contact me regarding my website (do an internet search under: "An ectopic pregnancy: The failue of my IUD") they often ask me what birth control they can use if they have adverse reactions to the pill. I often tell them to try Mirena because of the addition of hormones (the copper type doesn't have this) and the higher probability that pregnancy will not occur.

After reviewing several message boards on IUD's, one major side effect that happens in some women is that they have continuous bleeding. In some women this does go away in time - in other women, they elect to get the IUD removed because their sick of the constant bleeding and it doesn't seem to stop for them. I guess the call is yours - you can keep it in and see if it stops on it's own, or you can have it removed.

I would hold out for a bit longer. Especially if you have your period, the continued bleeding does not sound too big of an issue (yet).

If you're still bleeding in a week, though, the IUD may not be for you...

Question

I'm considering having the Mirena inserted, but one big concern is Acne. Has anyone had problems w/worsening acne after insertion?

For the past couple of years I have taken Yasmin (a combination pill) and my skin has really cleared up, but it has made me crazy with PMS. I'm almost 37, so the thought of having breakouts again is very depressing.

Thanks for any comments on this.

Question Re: Mirena IUD

Hi everyone I'm a newbie. I had the Mirena inserted one day before my period stated. Doc felt it was a good idea because of ovarian cysts, heavy periods, bad cramping. So far all I have is really bad lower back pain. No pain in usual lower left abdomen. I would hold out on getting it removed as your body needs to adjust to something foriegn plus new hormones. I just keep in mind the warning sighns. Fever, Really bad cramps, or unusual discharge. Keeping my fingers crossed! Anyone experiencing lower back pain like me? Bye, Kim
please let me know if anyone else has the lower back pain upon recievin Mirena IUD? Thanks
