Question Has anyone used Mircette?

I began using Mircette about 3 weeks ago because I wanted to switch to a lower estrogen BCP to help clear up my acne(I had previously been on Yasmin and quit because of severe depression and mood swings). I am noticing that my pants are fitting tighter, I am having more mood swings, and am always feeling sick. Has anyone taken Mircette and experienced these side effects, or is it just me? I did not think the side effects were high with a lower-dose pill.

I was on Mircette for about 3 months and I also gained weight. I have to tell you that if you want a birth control pill that helps REALLY well with acne, the progestin only mini-pill (my brand was called Camilla) was wonderful for me with that. I did have an initial break out (mild) on my chin, but then I was clear about 99% of the time after that.( got maybe a small pimple once a month) I had no mood swings either and I kept my sex drive.

I do believe though that I gained some weight on it...mostly due to increased cravings for sweets and carbs - and normally I work out for 30 to 40 minutes about 4 to 5 days a week, but by the end of august and beginning of september I had stopped work outs due to illness and getting into the swing of college and homework. In a period of 3 weeks I gained 6 pounds - in my stomache area and thighs... so I've stopped taking the pill and started working out again in hopes of losing this. I haven't decided whether or not I'll be going back on...more than likely I will if I can get the weight issue under control. I also tried Yasmin in the past, and went off into my 4th month due to panic attacks, and squeezing pains in my arm and tingling in my hand and foot. Only thing I miss about it is that it made me lose weight and my sex drive increased!

I've been on mircette for a little over three months and i ADORE It. It's been the best pill. I've had no weight gain, no mood swings nothing. I skip my period all the time which is great, and it made my skin amazing. If your'e having a hard time with mircette, you're going to have to try switching to something even lower like Alesse, or something else. Mircette is a really low dose pill, but you've only been on it for three weeks, so i wouldn't suggest switching just yet. Give your system some time to get used to the pill.

I'm surprised someone mentioned a POP as a good pill to relieve acne. It's normally the estrogen levels that help with acne, not the progestin.

Some information on progestin and mood changes. The combo pills never worked for me as far as mood,(they made me wack out) but it says here that it's supposedly better to take those than the progestin pill in some women if you have depression.(which I don't have) I can say that I haven't had any mood changes from the progestin only pills, so I guess if you want to find out if it'll work for you, just try them for a few months:

Does progesterone cause mood changes?
The brain has both estrogen and progesterone receptors. In women who have epilepsy, seizures are known to occur more frequently during times of high estrogen (late follicular phase and ovulation) and they are decreased when progesterone is high. In this sense, progesterone acts a a brain anesthetic to some degree. High doses of progesterone can be very sedating.

Women who have depression, have lower brain levels of serotonin, thus the success of medications that block the body's degradation of serotonin and allow brain levels to remain higher. Estrogens are known to block one of the enzymes (monoamine oxidase - MAO) which degrades serotonin with the result of elevating mood. Progestogens, probably more so than natural progesterone, increase MAO concentration thus producing depression and irritability. Pure progestogen treatment without estrogen, such as DepoProvera® is know to worsen depression in women who already have a tendency toward or clinical signs of depression. The combination of estrogen plus progestogens such as used in birth control pills and menopausal hormonal replacement therapy does not tend to worsen mood because the compounds are neutralizing each other. There are some women who are more sensitive to certain hormones so their doses may need to be adjusted.

Talking

Thank you all for your helpful information. I think I'm going to give Mircette a little more time, and if anything gets worse, I'm gonna talk to my doctor. Thanks for the info everyone!
