Unhappy ~Staph infection in mouth~......

Hi to all, my name is Aymee. I have just been diagnosed with a staph infection in my mouth. This is the first time I have ever had anything like this in my life.
I went to a doctor who could never diagnose it for close to 2 months. He stated that he was not able to do any kind of a culture etc. for this type of thing. He kept giving me Nystatin telling me it was thrush.

Anyway, I knew that something else was wrong due to the swelling and irritation in my mouth. So, I went to another doctor (Thank the good Lord) who did blood tests and a culture right away. In his words "It is the oddest staff bacteria" he has ever observed. He has put me on a antibiotic that is making me very sick.

To be honest I am getting a little worried after reading other posts on how difficult it is to get rid of. If anyone has ever heard of oral staph or has any suggestions please reply.

Thank you,

Aymee

Thank you very much for your reply. To be honest I have never heard of anything like this either. My doctor informed me that he has only seen one other case in 15 years similar to mine. I guess that is why it has been so hard to diagnose..

As far as my symptoms, they came right after I came down with a bad cold (I thought) which I caught from my 2 year old. Either then or right after going to the doctor because I could not seem to shake the cold I had. The doctor prescribed Biaxin, incase I was suffering from a sinus infection.

About 2 days after, I started having trouble with my mouth...First a white coating on my tounge, severe dryness, then I noticed having raised blisters on my toungue. I also noticed that my tounge was starting to swell and burn. I thought I had thrush, or maybe an allergic reaction, but after 4 weeks of taking nystatin etc. it was pretty obvious that was not what it was.

After tests last week my doctor informed me that he found a very unusual staph bacteria from my culture...He is treating me right now with Levaquin, if this does not work he is going to send me to an ENT doctor.

I am becoming concerned after a month an a half of having these symptoms. That is why I posted my condition on here in hopes that someone might have heard of this.

Again thank you for your response,

Aymee

Aymee, did the doc. say it was ok to use something for your sore thoat? If yes than what are you doing. For the nausea, try and drink a glass of water 1/2 hour before your meals and get a good digestive enzyme going.drs
