Exclamation vasovagal syncope

Tell me what you think about this please...

Doctor's have just diagnosed my mother with Vasovagal Syncope because of a tilt table test. Now I have been reading for hours on the internet about this disorder and quite frankly I don't really understand it. All it talks about is the fainting, my mom did not faint during the test or has not experienced fainting spells. She went to the hospital with complaints of chest pain. When they take her BP standing it was very low (77/14). Now if she lays still in a bed it is about 109/55 (always around there). She also has a seizure disorder (in 1981) but they say that is not related. Now I did see on the net a relationship with Lupus. She was diagnosed with Lupus about 15 years ago. She had open-heart last year and had her aortic valve replaced. Now up until that point she never had chest pain/heaviness nor shortness of breath and DID NOT FAINT! Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Is Vasovagal Syncope related to Lupus? Is it related to Seizures? Help us please....

Oh, also they said she needed to increase her salt intake! Is that good for someone with heart problems?

I have been diagnosed with the same thing, as when i did the tilt table test I fainted in 6 minites which was some sort of record they told me. Salt increases your blood pressure, that would be why they would suggest she eats more of it. However you don't want to eat too much of it either. I read your other post about beta blockers too-I was on beta blockers for a period of times but reacted badly to them so had to go off them. If they are going to give her a mild dose, she should be fine, and it should help her-so it's something she should try.

I think if she gets her blood pressure under control she'll feel alot better.

Hope that helped!

Question

Thank you for your reply.... Here is the only thing hun, my mom never passed out during the test! Actually I can not ever remember my mom passing out. I just don't understand how they can give her this diagnosis without passing out? Fainting is a major factor in Vasovagal Syncope.

Yeah but they would have got a really low blood pressure reading if they want her on beta blockers. The guy before my test didn't faint either but he was diagnosed with the same thing. I really think it would be for the best if they have suggested it.
