Unhappy Lichen Planus - Help!

I developed oral lichen planus 5 years ago while under a lot of stress and haven't been able to get rid of it. I always have ulcer type sores on both sides of my mouth. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or any luck getting it under control.

Hi,

What does your doctor say? Have they given you a treatment plan or medication as of yet? I would discuss this with them because after 5 years you should have had this under control..

I do not have any experience with your problem, so I apologize that I cannot be of more help to you. I hope someone comes along that can offer more experience with this and get you the answers you deserve. I would call my doctor though, there has to be something they can do for you..

Good luck

*Crackling sounds from rib cage area across upper and middle back when stretching.
* Pain, tightness and burning all day long, usually ranges from a 4 through 9 depending on the day and how my body wants to react. Usually it's at least a 6/7 all day recently, used to be an annoying 3/4 all day, which I lived with but hated.
*Problem areas are mainly around breastbone area of chest, across shoulder blades, dead center upper back, upper shoulders and back of neck. Feels as if it's muscles and bones/joints, possibly ribs.
*Muscles spasms, had a couple that were severe enough to go to ER, felt like I was having a heart attack, pain radiated through upper back to chest area.
*Taking Vicodin 5/500 Soma 350 and Celebrex 200, which also helps somewhat but not to where I am not bothered by the pain, burning, tightness ect..
*Chiropractic 3 years, PT on and off again, all of which produces results that do not last for more than the day I have them.
*Can't remember any trauma I had that would have caused all this. Don't understand how it's getting worse.
*Can't really do anything, lifting, heavy physical ect.. Try and walk and stretch when I can.
*Still undiagnosed and waiting

I have been to an ENT and a dermatologist and they have prescribed some protopic and temovate, they help but wear off after use. Supposedly there isn't a cure and it make it difficult brushing your teeth because you have to be careful what toothpaste you use. I was in hopes that someone out there has the same problem and know of a different medication.

Re: Lichen Planus - Help!

My dentist just told me I have this also...we have no idea what from. I just developed it last month so it's very mild, but read somewhere on here that the toothpaste 'Biotene' helps very much with this or any kind of irritation in the mouth. I had one small area along my gum that was very sore and tender and had been like that for about a week. I bought a tube of this Biotene and used it, and by the next morning it not ony felt 100% better, but was actually going away. It's now been two days since I started using it, and it's gone. The poster who recommended this said it's the SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) that's in most toothpastes that can be irritating and Biotene doesn't have it, so it's actually very good for your mouth and gums. It also contains antibacterial agents that regular toothpastes don't, so I think this may help you if you would like to try it. It's available at stores like Walmart so it's fairly easy to find.

Re: Lichen Planus - Help!

I know it's been a long time since the original post but I was recently diagnosed with OLP. It is a very painful horrible condition. Just wondered if you had any suggestions or know of any treatments that work. Thanks.
