Question HIVES.......BREASTIMPLANTS

has anyone ever heard of anybody being allergic to breast implants? I got a breast augmentation in 01-00 a week later i developed hives I've had them ever since. My surgeon says that noone has ever been recorded being allergic and says I'm crazy, I have to take allegra 180 mg every day to control the hives, I'm even considering having them removed. If anyone has any advice, I would apreciate it.

Sorry, I don't know anything about implants. Just wanted to say that if you think they are the cause and your doctor says you're crazy, go to a different doctor. Even if it turns out the implants aren't the cause, you'd be better of with a doctor who will help you instead of dismiss you.

thanks for the advice, but it's my surgeon who doesn't believe me. I've seen my family doctor about it, he doesn't have any idea what it is. He refered me to an allergy specialist. the allergy specialist says it's unlikely to be cause by implants but possible and there's no way to test something like that, so he put me on allegra that i take every day. it helps but i'd like to stop taking it and be normal again.

Re: HIVES.......BREASTIMPLANTS

I know this post is four years old, but I just found it and maybe this will spark some more discussion.

I had my first implants six years ago, and a month or two after began developing hives and swellings over different parts of my body. And then after two years they went away. After two more years one of my first implants ruptured, and I had to get them replaced. Again, a month after the surgery, the swellings came back. I had many tests performed, and the only thing they could tell me was that I was getting hives, which I allready knew. They put me on medications, which didn't really work. My surgeon said it had nothing to do with the implants, but I know better. The same thing happened twice, after each of my surgeries.

If there is anyone out there who has experienced something similar, and could share your experence let me know.

Thank you,
Silvia

Re: HIVES.......BREASTIMPLANTS

Sounds like you are allergic to the latex which is an allergy and since you have latex in your body that could be a good reason why you have hives. Taking an antihistimine like Zyrtec round the clock will keep the hives from popping up. So, you either go get the implants out or stay on an antihistimine.
