Right-side pain - urgent?

Hi. I have had pains, or not really pain, but a poking feeling around my belly button for probably one week. Today it is lower down and on the right-side below the belly button kind of where the hip bone pokes out and above where my ovary would be located. It isn't so much a poking feeling now, but a burn, maybe.. it is hard to desribe. I have read about appendicitis but each site has different things and I haven't got extreme pain, just discomfort. I can't see a doctor as I am in the middle of my exam period and need to study... unless it could be urgent.
I have been VERY stressed and having most physical and mental side-effects of stress until yesterday I felt a lot better, but still feel nauseous, but not as often as I have been for the past month or so... yesterday my period started as well, but this pain is not normal period-related pains.
Also, sometimes there is a feeling on the left-side about 2 inches from my belly button.. it is the poking feeling as well.

I'm not sure what to think... please give your opinion.

To my knowledge appendicitis pain will only get worse not come and go and is only on the right side below the belly button. If you start to run a fever get to a hospital and get checked out.

It is possible that the stress of exams is causing this but if it gets worse or doesn't go away after exams , see a doctor!!!!!

Hey there,
The same sort of thing happened to me, pain started in the middle of my stomach, then moved to the right. I thought maybe it was a ovarian cyst or something, as it came and went, and really felt "pokie" over there. Then one day I was in serious pain. My husband made me go to the doctor who was pretty sure it was my appendix. I went to the ER blah blah blah later, they went to take out my appendix and found that I had an infection in my colon! I am NOT IN ANYWAY suggesting that this is your situation, but the condition that I had was very serious and I let it go way too long. I was in the hospital for a very long time and I still have issues with my GI because of damage. In other words, your body is telling you that something isn't right. I know you don't have plans in the grand scheme of things to be sick, but get it checked out so it is a little bump in the road rather than an earthquake.

I'm not sure of your gender here, but if you're female... could be ovarian cyst(s) or something... if not there are still other possibilities. There are colon disorders and problems that can cause symptoms of abdominal pain. At least it sounds like you've done your reasearch well on appendicitis and know what signs to look for. If your symptoms become worse or continue to be bothersome it would certainly warrant being checked out. Any problems with constipation or diarrhea? If so, perhaps an over the counter remedy would be of assistance.

Hi. Thanks everyone for replying.
I saw the doctor quickly and she said it is almost definately from stress affecting my bowels.. but if it isn't gone by after exams it could be something with my liver or kidneys and I will have an ultrasound done.
It feels worst when I bend over..it feels like my ribs are poking into something... also, I feel fat.. bloated or something.. and my stomach grumbles a lot.
I'm not exactly sure what diarrhea is.. well, I know what it is.. but not sure whether I have it... Lately, I may not feel the need to go that much, but then when I do go it is like with diarrhea... but I don't feel any urgency/need to go beforehand... I guess from stress - and worst just before an exam?
Also, I feel really nauseous after brushing my teeth.. it must be the fluoride. I remember vomiting after the dentist once and he said it was an allergy...that was when I was young so now afterwards I just feel very sick. My stomach feels very sensitive to anything.. drinking tea/coffee feels like boiling water in my stomach.. like there is a hole in the stomach wall.

Thanks again.
