Thumbs down Oprahwebsite

Has any-1 gone to the Oprah website and looked at the post people are writing due to the show. I can't believe all the negative things being said. I understand that people with chronic pain feel they are suffering due to people's abuse- (like myself). That may be so but addictions are also a problem and that is what the show is about. When I used I didn't do it so someone else would suffer I did it so I wouldn't suffer. I think this is a positive thing for someone to do and I am so happy to see it is now being talked about. I know my opinion may be debated and that is fine. But I am sticking to it.

i totally understand these people venting...narcotic painkillers have a bad rap and anyone who takes them on a regular basis is looked at like an addict. some people can actually take this medication for the purpose it was intended and not abuse it. i knew a woman with RA (rhumatoid arthritis) in horrific pain daily. she was given tons of meds and took them sparingly. i think most of us wait until we are twinging(especially women, after all we give birth) before we take anything...i often wait until the pain is so far ahead, that when i finally do take something, it doesn't work...it will take til the next dose 4 hours later for the pain to subside. just like when i was in labor with my first. after 14 hours of contractions, the nurse finally talked me into a shot of demerol (i hate shots) i wanted natural childbirth. well, i was so far gone, the shot did nothing...4 hours later they gave me another one which helped me to relax enough to dialate and finally birth this kid after 28 hours....(and i never let him forget it LOL). i am not looking to get high. i am looking to fucntion and enjoy my life and do my job that i love and take care of my kids ( who are mostly old enough to take care of me). oprah's voice is loud and people pay attention...people in chronic pain and need these meds to go on, should be allowed their say too. i hope oprah DOES do a show on chronic pain. i have back pain everyday for the past 2 1/2 years now. as i sit here and type, i have pain shooting down my leg from my sciatic nerve. my pain is not nearly as severe as those with fibromyalgia or herniated disks, etc. people should have a say in their treatment and should not be judged by society for their treatment. i'd love it if i woke up tomorrow and never hurt again. it's doubtful. the orthopedist can't even find the damage that is causing this pain...another MRI, maybe sitting this time, a second opinion, more PT....and here is some Vioxx that will give me the worst stomach-ache i ever had, in the meantime, hang in there..... LOL...i will.

I think the whole thing sucks...knowing that the show is not telling the entire story or truth. What a farce. Oprah is no better than Jerry Springer. I also wonder why the Suburban Mom allowed them to misrepresent her. I'm sorry but my moral integrity would not have allowed someone to tell me I could not tell the truth.

I don't think anyone doubts that this show is a good thing. What I hear people saying is they have suffered with CP for so long and can't get the treatment they need because of doctor's fears of addiction. That is what I am getting from all of the posts on the website. Now that isn't my problem. My problem is Oprah would not let this woman tell the truth. I am trying very hard to figure out how to get off this medication and stay off. If I watch this show and don't know any better I think this lady went off her medication with absolutely no help with physical withdrawls or the mental wd which is what I am afraid of. Do you see the problem with this? That is so wrong. Many women who take medication in secret and who may not know better may try to do this and not have a clue what they are in for. I can't believe the show will be able to prepare them for this when this lady used medication. She can't prepare them for Cold Turkey.
I hope you understand I am not attacking this lady or the show. I think this is wrong and as you can tell I am strongly against the Oprah show doing this.
