Unhappy HELP----I still can't sleep

Help....i can't sleep at all, only about 2 or three hours a night. I am exhausted and it is really starting to affect my moods. If i do get some sleep, the baby crying or dog barking at night will wake me then i can't fall back asleep! . I am almost a month clean now and can't believe that this is still going on. I take xanax at night, which only lasts about 3 hours or so and then i am wide awake again. I have tried tylenol p.m.....3 at a time to be exact and it still doesn't work. I am constantly exhausted thru-out the day. I really need some opinions on Ambien...what do you guys think??? I really think if i could get my hands on some, i would be fine after a few days of sleeping thru the night. And it is virtually impossible to take a nap during the day, my 2 yr old only naps like 45 min. if i am lucky. I feel like taking off to a hotel for the night, with about couple of Ambien in my pocket and SLEEPING
Well i will try anything at this point!

Hi Lisa,

I'm pretty new to the boards. Have you ever tried Trazadone? It's an antidepressant (I use it for insomnia) and works wonderfully. It is also non-addicting. Need a prescription.

Lisa,
When I couldn't sleep I used Ambien and it let me sleep through the night. It is a wonderful drug but it is to be used only for a short period of time. They suggest not using it more than 2 weeks since you can get addicted to it. I really like it though and it was great to finally have a good nights sleep and it didn't make me feel groggy in the morning which was nice. Hope this info helped! take care Monica

Hello Lisa
I have been following your fortunes! Well done for finally getting off opiates. But I have to caution you. I have recently tapered off ativan (a benzodiazepine like Xanax) - took a year of tapering to get off 3 mg of ativan. After that I have managed now to c/t off opiates. Getting off opiates was just a picnic compared to getting off a benzo. Please dont use xanax - it is so very addicting. If you get addicted to xanax (which happens after a very short time) then you will HAVE to taper off - you mustnt c/t because of the possibilitis of seizures. Please, please be careful. Ambien works in much the same way as the benzos and should be avoided at all costs too. I know fatigue is so debilitation - but your brain will come back on line very soon - you will start to sleep naturally. But if you start messing about with the likes of xanax and ambien - then you really are on the road to hell (IMO). Sorry to be so blunt - but I wouldnt want anyone to go thro a benzo taper as I have just done! Please read The Ashton Manual (Ashton is a psychopharmacologist who is a world leading expert in her field) - it is freely available online.
Hang in - you have done so well - dont go now and get addicted to something much much worse than anything you have previously been on!
