pleghm in throat all the time.. whats going on?

for about the last 4 months it seems every day i have pleghm in my throat, when i wake up its the worst, i usually have to cough it up a few times, and then during the day it comes and goes.. just a feeling like a lump in my throat, i keep swallowing but that doesnt work until eventually i cough it up and sometimes i can get it, sometimes i cant.. I have no idea what could be causing it, i did go to the doctor 3 weeks ago for some anxiety issues(cold sweats while falling asleep at night, dizziness) and he prescribed low dosages of trazadone to help me sleep and ativan.. i do have cats and am mildly allergic also... anyone ever get this and what can i take to help it dissipate?? thanks!

Hi Nautica-
This could just be a temproary exacerbation of your allergies, especially through the summer. Did you bring it up with your doctor when you saw him? Not sure where you live, but I had a more -than- usual "phlegmy" summer here in Los Angeles (I too am mildly allergic.... to cats, certain grasses, and whatever else grows here in La-La Land (which is just about everything!). If you are in Southern California I know that smog was at its worst in a decade over the summer.

Obviously, if you smoke, that, plus allergies just makes any new sensitivity worse. Have you tried any allergy meds from your doctor? I used Allegra (NON-D) since I didn't need a decongestant, I just wanted to dry up the phlegm.... and it seemed to help..

Hi...

I strongly suggest you go to an ENT doctor as soon as you can. You want to r/o an lump you may have in your throat (not to scare you). Sometimes what we think is not serious could turn out to be something else, you know. Keep us posted.

Since you have a mild allergy asthma can also be a culprit, asthma isn't about wheezing always, it can be constant clearing of throat and a cough. GERD is another culprit that seems to produce a constant clearing and cough. It is best to have a Dr find the underlying reason so you can get it under control.

You would benefit from asthma meds. Also keep your pets out of the bedroom. Do a deep cleaning in your bedroom, vacuuming every square inch to remove dust mites/dust, including your mattress, blinds, drapes, everything. Wash things in HOT if possible.
You can also purchase air purifiers and see if they help.
