Angry Tired Of The Pain, Help!

This is getting ridiculous. I had one of my front teeth filled about a month ago. It hasn't been right since.

Before having the work done, my tooth felt fine. Not sensitive to hot/cold, didn't hurt, nothing. I just felt the spot behind it. So I go to get it checked out. Since the tooth sits slightly in front of another tooth, I figured it would be kind of hard to get at it.

So the dentist does his thing, performs the root canal tests, (I almost killed him) and every tooth was the same. When he banged on them, all the same, no pain. Then the freeze test (ouch, cold!) all the same. He drilled, then it was filled and filed.

Keep in mind that just about this same time every year, I get sinus problems. Last year I had an achey upper molar that I had checked and there was no cavity, but the dentist said it looked like a shallow filling so he refilled it. The thing still aches from time to time.

Anyway, This stupid front tooth is giving me fits. After having it filled, it was sensitive to cold air. Now it seems to dislike very hot liquids (coffee) BUT! It feels fine when I eat something like a sandwich, and I was even tapping on it gently and it was ok. No pain other than to mainly cold air.

I'm at my wit's end. I'm thinking that this dentist has screwed up my tooth, and I want it fixed - FREE! I can't afford to pay for his screw up! (and I mean I litterally have no $$ to pay to fix it.)

Now, on the other hand, I've had people tell me that they had a sensitive tooth after a filling that last quite awhile ( a few months to a couple of years) and I do know that one molar I had filled with the white filling was sensitive for a long time.

I just don't know what to do. Should I wait it out, since my sinuses are going haywire and making teeth hurt, or what?

I would have figured that had I needed a root canal in the first place, they would have said so since they took 2 x-rays of the tooth.

What does your dentist say? If you haven't gone back, I would. Be straight. Tell him/her that you have no $$.

I have had really great dentist that have helped me through a variety of problems and they have almost always been fair financially.

That said, the first thing I would try would be Sensodyne toothpaste. It takes a while to work, but can help. The other thing is to try anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil or Aleve (or their generic forms).

Hope that gives you somethings to try. Good luck. Not many things are worse than chronic dental pain.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to call the dentist Monday. As for Sensodyne, I've been using it. We'll see what happens!

Only time I had a tooth that would hurt when air hit it was a tooth that had a receding gum. So the "root" of that tooth was exposed and I got it filled (gumline filling). End of problem. I wonder if he cut away any of your gum?
