You might have TMJ Disorder. I have had more symptoms (jaw popping and tightness) after having my wisdom teeth removed. Common Symptoms are popping in the jaw joint. Treatment includes Splint Therapy and possibly braces. More information can be found on the TMJ board.

Good luck

Hi Cuttie,

This is a classic sign of TMJ. I've suffered from it for years. Sometimes it pops so loud other people can hear it. Actually, just today I had an impression made of my teeth to get a splint made to relieve the muscles in my jaw. Its a clear plastic that is fitting over your top teeth and is not visible to anyone. Im going to assume you were asleep when they took out your wisdom teeth, they obviously opened your mouth more then they should and popped your jaw. Put one finger in each ear and open and close your mouth. If your jaw is out of whack, you'll feel that one side is different from the other. Dont ignore it though because it can cause a lot of pain in your face and ringing in your ears. Its generally treated by a dentist, but my dental insurance is crap so I had my doctor refer me to a specialist on bones of the face. My insurance is now covering 100% of the splint ($1,500) and psysiotherapy classes to learn how to relax the muscles in my face. Best of luck to you.

Hi

Before you choose to have surgery read some of the posts on the TMJ board http://www.healthboards.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=123
MOST people that have surgery get worse or have no improvement. http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=108609
Some people have reduced sympoms from just long term splint therapy and adjustment to their splint.
