Pcos

I was just diagnosed with PCOS. My mother is freaking out because her sister (Nurse Practitioner) told her it was pre-diabetes. I told my mom that was not true...my doctor never mentioned anything like that. My blood sugar tests cam back normal. She put me on Clomid for fertility. I have irregular periods and always have. I am a little nervous. How hopeless is PCOS...I have heard that sometimes Clomid can help, but sometimes nothing helps. Can anyone share their experience with PCOS with me?

Thanks,
Jessi

Re: Pcos

Hi. My SIL has PCOS and is trying to conceive. She got a lot of good information from the PCOS website. If you do a google search, you can get lots of info on it. MY SIL was never told it was prediiabetes either.
Good Luck

Re: Pcos

I was diagnosed with PCOS b/c my LH is 3 times higher than my FSH. I have regular periods, and all my other PCOS tests came back normal--even the insulin, glucose, and other diabetes indicators. So, you are not prone to diabetes necessarily, but if it is in your family, you should continue getting your blood checked. I have heard it is more difficult for women with PCOS to conceive, but not impossible. Good luck!

Hi Jessie,

I have PCOS and I have been TTC for 4 1/2 years we tried 5 cycles of IUI with Clomid 50 mg - 150 mg and all of them failed I tried BCP for 6 weeks and another IUI with 100mg clomid and I have been on a break for 2 months and I was going to start IVF on Christmas eve and I canceled it cause I am PG all on our own. So the point is with PCOS there is hope.

Re: Pcos

Hi Jessi,

There is hope for women with PCOS, I am 25 and was dx with PCOS last year when my husband and I decided to start TTC. PCOS is often referred to as the "sister" disease to diabetes and although many of us will never suffer from diabetes it is good to keep an eye on things and educate yourself. Women can get pregnant, Clomid is a drug many women start out with but often PCOS'ers are Clomid resistant, I tried the drug and it was not helpful to me. I did my first IUI with Gonal-F in March and became pregnant with twins, sadly I went into preterm labor in August and they were born premature, they passed away a few hours after they were born but their being born too soon had nothing to do with PCOS. So there is hope, best of luck to you. Sending lots of babydust your way!!

Hugs
Amanda
