Message for sweetjade

Hi Sweetjade,

How are things going? You definitely seem to be answering a lot of the same questions. You know I think your work on this board is inspirational, but there is only one problem - you have been too honest, and told people the truth. The truth, of course, is that there is no universal answer that encompasses everyone. The problem is people come to the board, and read what is said - understand what is said (I don't doubt this for a moment), but ultimately ignore it when they are staring at themselves in the bathroom mirror. I know, many committed people have tried your/Sunfell's sugestions and effectively have never looked back; but, there needs to be some sort of grass roots campaign. We need a simple 3-4 day menu plan, which even if a little one-size-fits-all, gets people trying. I recall that Joeh recently said in response to all this diet talk that he couldn't even boil an egg, so how could he be expected to pull this thing off. Of course he can boil an egg, but what he was really saying was: show me how to do this. Had he not been interested in this diet at all, he probably would not have made this remark. We need something that people can down-load and begin relatively easily, the next day.

Remember many of these people on these boards are at their wits end. We just need people to see some sort of results, and then their own initiative will follow - I have no doubt. I'm still getting confused myself about this whole diet thing - let me explain. I've cut out dairy, all sweets (not that I ate many to begin with), but I'm still unsure about breads. I want to cut them out totally, but I'm not really sure as to whether or not I should, because I still have a choice regarding it. I currently eat about 3 slices of no-dairy, no wheat-flour dark rye bread, per day. Per slice it has only 10.6 grams of carbohydrates, so I figured it can't be that bad. For breakfast I have oats with rice milk; for dinner I have chicken and vegetables or fish. My point is, this sort of aligns me with Sunfell's diet and yours too, I think. You have said, that you currently ingest 200-300 grams of carbohydrate a day. As soon as I heard that I thought perhaps I can have more bread, given its only 10 carbs per slice. Even if I were to have 4-5 slices per day I would probably still come in at under 300 grams a day, given everything else I eat; but, that much bread is still probably detrimental.

I don't even have spots anymore - I only really had oily skin after accutane. Vitamin B5 helped with this, but, now I want to wean myself off this as well. I have found that with the diet changes thus far, and supplements, my oil and pores are diminishing progressively - but, obviously I want to take it as far as I can go. Sweetjade, you have hinted at the fact that your own diet is not perfect, but, what do you think the ideal is generally speaking. I think you should probably start this thread, if you think it is feasible, because you are the most well versed with this stuff, and therefore it will be more authoritative coming from you.

Take care

Re: Message for sweetjade

Karl, you're right. It took me to buy a book before I changed my diet properly simply because I didn't know what to eat. I can cook (my Mum can't so I had to learn at an early age ) but I use excuses for eating rubbish when I don't have a plan. This is a basic version of what I've been eating for two days and will continue even tomorrow (Crimbo):

Breakfast:

3 egg whites + 1 egg yoke omlet (I didn't think I knew how to cook an omlet 'cos I don't like eggs but it's a simple case of putting the beaten eggs into a frying pan and waiting for them to turn into a solid pancake-like thing)
1/4 of a cantaloupe melon (probably any melon will do apart from watermelon 'cos it's sugary, but cantaloupe is the one with orange flesh)

Eat the egg first - protein always goes first, apparently.

Lunch:

5 ounces (a portion ) of grilled salmon (wrap salmon steak in tinfoil and put it under the grill for 12-15 minutes)
Lettuce tossed in a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice if you want
1/2 a green apple and some berries (strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries)

Dinner:

More salmon
A generous amount of steamed (or lightly boiled) brocolli, and/or spinach and/or asparagus (preferably a mixture of all of them)
4 (yes, only 4 for some reason) hazlenuts (the ones the squirrels eat )
More melon

Snacks:

2 ounces (very little) chicken breast (you can buy this cooked and pre-packed - look to see that there are no added ingredients like brown sugar)

Drink 8 - 10 glasses of water a day whilst on this diet. More if you exercise. I guess you can eat more in that case, too. I hope so 'cos I did since I was ravenous after running. The salmon and olive oil provide the omega-3 and 6 oils and there's no carbohydrate (other than the managable sugar in the fruit and vegetables) in this diet so you will notice a difference. Try it

Karl, the thing about carbs is they cause a spike in insulin activity which kickstarts the hormones etc. Even if you wake up and have a glass of orange juice you've started the rot for the day. Don't give in to your sugar cravings (carbs are just sugar). Try to live without it for a while and see what happens

Thanks Jhart,

All we need to do is get the ball rolling; people need to be able to come to the board - see the diet, that is to say, spell it out for them literally, and there's a very good chance that they'll be on board. I think its all about convenience.

Take care

ok my derm says a low carb diet i went back to a acne web site and derms are pretty right much on what sweet jade has been saying.i think this is the right way ALL people should eat not just because they have acne.if we eat terrible food over years its going to catch up to both acne and non-acne people in the form of other diseases.
