Post Drinking and Dementia

My father is developing dementia. He and his wife are both alcoholics. My question is, will the alcohol speed up the progress of the dementia? I have been told it will probably aggravate it. I am just wondering if his heavy drinking will make it much harder to treat? Thank you for any advice, it is appreciated.

Hello Sandy: Thank you for answering my post.I do believe he has been diagnosed, he has undergone many tests. I do not have much contact with him because of his wife so I don't know what his doctors have said. Do the behaviours differ with dementia due to drinking? I personally feel the combination of both are attributing to his odd behaviour.
I noticed you work with Parkinson's patients as well. Ironically my mother has Parkinson's
Anyway, I do thank you for your time.
