Exclamation Will President Bush halt funding for stem cell research?

I got this from a friend of mine and think it is well worth passing on. If you support the important work being accomplished with stem cell research, as I do, please read the following information and take action.

Diabetes, cancer, Parkinson’s, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), heart disease, Alzheimer’s, arthritis, spinal cord injuries…every day, more than 100 million Americans battle diseases and disabilities like these for which there is no cure. Chances are, even if you’re not a victim yourself, someone close to you is. In the past few years, the breakthrough research on human stem cells has brought new hope to millions of people that a cure for their suffering may be much closer than they ever imagined. However, the Bush Administration could take action at any time that would delay the potential benefits of this research for many more years to come. Our elected officials need to know that continued federal support for stem cell research is vital. You can help. Your participation in this important effort will only take a few moments of your time, and will cost you nothing, but it could help save millions of lives—maybe the life of someone you love. Here are two simple but effective things you can do today:

1. Visit www.stemcellfunding.org/funding to ask the President and your Members of Congress to support funding for this crucial area of medical research.

2. Pass this email on to your family and friends and ask them to contact the President and their Members of Congress as well. Every voice counts.

Anyone who has experience with these terrifying conditions knows how important hope is in the daily struggle that life becomes. It doesn’t make sense to allow politics to ruin that hope.

Dozens of national groups like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, the Parkinson's Action Network, Harvard University, and the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation have joined forces to advocate for continued funding of stem cell research. We may still have a long way to go, but we’ve come a lot further than we ever thought possible. Please take the time to contact the President and your Members of Congress today. Thank you.
