Post Desperate for information on possible causes of Alzheimers

So much has been said on symptoms diagnosis gene tests etc. But as this seems to be an ever increasing condition. Both sides of my family Mother and Father their siblings including cousins have been diagnosed (which have included post mortems) with Alzheimers. I personally would like information of research that has been undertaken on possible causes. Over the years I have heard it's could be diets, environmental etc but would appreciate accessing any research. Any stats that might show it is worse in areas with fluoridation of water, hot climates or cold climates, pollution, ingesting metals or other contaminents, amalgam dental fillings etc. I want to be far more informed by gathering research and within our family we intend to share this info and possibly take steps which may enable us to slow down this disease. I feel that our children are at present watching a timebomb just tick away and feel so powerless in not having information which could be relevant or at least give the feeling of not just sitting back and doing nothing. Where can I go from here?

The current state of the research is that alzhiemers is an inherited tendency which is then triggered by events such as head injuries and strokes. The best thing to do for children in this regard is to protect them from head injuries and not allow them to become obese.

You have to look at what drugs the person is taking for other medical problems too. Dr's are giving statin drugs (lipitor) to everyone with hi cholesterol these days! One of the side effects that is not listed in the PDR is memory loss.
the UCSD is doing research on this right now, no one can explain why this happens I know because it happened to me.

Thanks to Bird 123 Johnemcg Plymouth and Sandy W for your information and web sites. My mother is deteriorating right before our eyes. Where only just six months ago she was having more time with clear thinking she certainly in the past few months and moreso over these last six weeks having far more periods (short and long) of confusion, vivid imagination etc. For the first time in her life she recently started on the anger track. She within the last few days was saying she was kidnapped yet at times she says I know I was not kidnapped in reality but I have it in my head that I have been. She is at present hospitalised where they are doing more tests including spinal tap etc. Just wanted to share this with you and thank you all. I am at present checking out a treatment for cellular detoxification including antioxident which is initially for a 12 week period and then ongoing maintenance which will include Ginkgo Phospholipid and Magnesium. I have heard this program has helped people in delaying the onset and feel I have much to gain and nothing to lose when faced with a future mentally disabling stressful disease as with my mother. But more importantly I want to make personal contact with people here in Australia who are ingesting these products and having results.
