Post anemia and hair

hello,

i have had hair loss for a few years. it is all over but only noticable in the front by my bangs. also what hair i have left is mostly premature gray hair that is like wire. my hair is also dry and brittle no matter what i do to it. can all of this be caused my anemia? i should say i am always tired, depressed and cold. thanks for all replys.

Hi sheisherself!
Yes anemia can cause premature greying (my hair was all white by the time I was 30! No hereditary premature greying in my family) and sooooo dry! Are you having treatment? Because all of your other symptoms will improve when your levels go up (although I still have white hair-under all the dye!)
All the best and hope you are felling better soon http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif

Greetings Sue ,

I am sooo happy someone replied. Thankyou! I have not been to the doctors yet, because they don't seem to listen to me very well. I wanted to have some ideas when i actually did go. Which I plan to soon. My hair is very dry and frizzy. I am 37 and could cry because i used to have beautiful hair. It is very embarassing. How long have you been treating your anemia? Did you experience hairloss as well as the premature gray? I could fall asleep everyday at work. Does this also impair the immune system? I have been getting alot of viral or upper respiratory infectiions. I am probably deficient in a lot of minerals and vitamins. Anything you can tell me would be very much appreciated. Thankyou and have a good one.

Hi again sheisherself!

I have 'no intrinsic factor' which means I can't absorb vitamin B12 (and causes anemia etc.) but have been anemic FOREVER (well it feels that way!) Please go to the doctor as soon as possible because that way you can start treatment and get well soon!
My hair did fall out and also snapped off at the roots! Also I caught every cough, cold and flu around (yes it does affect your immune system) You get so tired sometimes it's an effort to move (and occasionally pass out when you do move!) You get breathless easily and sometimes depressed. All in all anemia is not a nice place to be.... But it's easily treated. So PLEASE see your doctor as soon as you can AND MAKE your doctor listen!!!!
Let us know how you go.
Best love
Sue
