Question Anyone tried Inderal?

I have tried Amerge and Imitrex for migraines and neither has worked for me. The doc gave me some Inderal today. I was wondering if anyone has had results with this one and if not, what has worked best for you. Also, if Inderal does work for you, how long until you get results? Thanks!

Re: Anyone tried Inderal?

I have tried differnt mads over the years only to learn that the best ones only helped me sleep off the pain and others only made me sick. What I have learned however is that mine can be prevented with diet. Watch for triggers that are consumed 2 to 10 hours prior to headache, such as onions, chocolate, citrus, etc. My headaches that used to be so severe that I would pull over and sleep in the car only 5 miles from home have been reduced to less severe and less often simply by diet control.

Re: Migraine med results?

Thanks for your reply. I have read all the food triggers that cause migraines and I do not eat any of them. This time I have had a migraine that has lasted three weeks. The longest one I had before was only 72 hours. I have been so sick the last 3 weeks. I have all the symptoms of a classic migraine. Mostly w/o aura except last night. I am just so frustrated because I have tried everything. Amerge, Imitrex, now Inderal. Even Darvacet for pain. It didn't work. I take hydrocodone for the pain and phenergan for the nausea. I have spent the last three weeks with a horrible headache and vomiting 3-4 times a day. I even went out and got preganancy test 'cause I haven't thrown up this much since I was pregnant. Luckily they were both neg. I just want to find out what is causing it. I have read about all kinds of triggers and none them apply to me. Its always in the same spot , at the top of the back of my head. it's even tender to the touch, almost as if I have been hit in the head with something. I am just so frustrated cause I can't find anything that is causing it or get rid of it. I don't want to take narcotics to cover it up , I just want it to go away. Oh yeah, I also did research before a few months ago, and began taking Magnesium supplements. I have been getting migraines for 15 years now. I am just getting so frustrated cause nothing is working. I have a lot of menstrual problems, so it could be hormonal. I bleed three weeks out of the month and then one week of not. I'm so backwards! I have tried every kind of BC they make and have had about 6 surgeries. After my laparocopy and D&C, it stops for a few months but all comes back again. So thats one guess as to why I have these migraines. I also got silicone breast implants in September, so I have been concerned about a leak or something. I go in for my 6 mo post op in a week so I will have him check that out. I just feel so bad cause I have two young children and after the migraine I am so exhausted. Sorry this was so long, but thanks for listening, I think I really just needed to vent. If there is any meds that work well for anyone feel free to share info. And even if it's not meds any home remedies for treatment would also be interesting. Thanks!

Re: Migraine med results?

There are several abortive meds out there to try. They all effected me differently. Please talk to your dr about them and try them all to see if any help. There is frova, axert, zomig, maxalt, and migranol. Also imitrix comes in 3 different forms pill, nasal spray, and shot. The pill takes forever to kick in and isn't always effective. The ns kicks in about 10min. and the shot kicks in about 10 min. also and is more apt to get rid of a hard ha that doesn't want to leave. Not sure why but I have found that to be true.

If you are having lots of daily migraines there are lots of preventatives you can try. There is neurontin, tegretol, depakote, topamax, indomethacine, propranolol, verapamil, elavil, and the list goes on and on. There are many options. Good luck finding the right drug coctail that works for you. It took me 5 years before I found the right medicine for me. It can be a long road sometimes until you find something but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Eventually something will work. Hang in there.

Re: Migraine med results?

I have been on inderal for 2 1/2 weeks now, I also quit ibuprofen the day I started the inderal...I was taking a few ibuprofens daily. I noticed already that I don't have daily headaches, but still every few days I get one. I also noticed that when I do have one - the AMERGE (abortive) works way better than before I took the inderal. So not sure if cutting off the ibuprofen or taking the inderal daily is the difference or maybe both......or neither.
However, you aren't supposed to feel much difference for a month or two. I am really hoping that for me, this is a sign that the inderal is going to help!
I take 120mg daily of the inderal LA.
How much are you on, and when did you start it?
