info on changing doctors -help!

my dad has been showing signs of alzheimer's for a year now. his father had it as well. we've talked to our doctor about it, and he has given him some tests and has totally blown off the idea. he only got one question wrong for a memory quiz he gave him so he thinks he's fine. alas, he is not. he has no short term memory at all, and he's gotten lost and driven out of town without even realizing it. (mind you we drive him around now). our doctor now has asked my mom to come into all of his appointments with him because he has a bad memory, but he is doing absolutely nothing to help us.

i was wondering if there are doctors out there that specify in alzheimer's and are WILLING to help us, or are we just going to have to find a new gp?

You can check with your local alzheimer chapter to see if they could give you a referal. a Local mood and memory clinic or a geratric psychiatrist {SP} a nuerologist who works with alz patients. IF he does have alz the sooner you get him on the meds the better to slow it down.Your father must have had a good day when he aced the memory test but it's odd the doctor requested your mom be at all there meeting cause he has a bad memory. Hope this helps.

I agree get him to a Neurologist. Most gp's don't know enough to dx a person.
I sooner the better, esp.getting him on the meds.for AD..It will make a big difference. If he can't toerate one med.there are others to take.........
